Pepper and Smokey have grown up together. Ones spayed and the other isn't, they are the same age, a year and a half. All day today in our backyard they have been chasing one another, there was an incident about a year ago now where Smokey ripped peppers skin open, and they haven't seen each other since, accept for today. Now they have been chasing each other all morning but will safely lay down together. I am confused...

Who is instigating the fights? the spayed or the unspayed rabbit?

What starts the fights? food? toy?

A bit more information can help us help you.

In the meantime, you may wish to separate them to prevent further physical damage to either rabbit. Vet bills aren't cheap!

I'm still confused. Were they suddenly put in the same cage together? Did they fight in the cage and then it carried over into the yard?
Was it just today that you put them in the same cage? You mentioned that they've been separated for almost a year.

...just trying to piece this together.

I, trying to put this together still. Ill start from the start,
We brought them home when they were 10 weeks, had them in the same cage indoors.
About three months later, pepper (spayed) had bite marks all down her tummy from smokey(non spayed) , so I assumed because they were growing they were getting in each other's space
So we separated them, they haven't seen each other for a long time, about a year and today was their first day back together, we assumed they'd be alright because it's a huge space,
But we have been watching all day and they have been fighting, then grooming each other, them fighting, etc.
the non spayed tries to hump, so the spayed starts running away, then they come in and snuggle together, then the spayed starts the fight by sniffing the non spayeds tail.
