I see all these show rabbit formulas. And that member are paying like ten to fifteen dollars for a 50 pound bag of pellets.

Well I need to cut back on expenses. So i was tying to figure out if there was a show quality rabbit feed in timothy based pellet

Or not a show quality but some kind of 50 pound bag of ffod for pretty cheap

I'm very curious about the same thing. We currently pay $15 for a 5 pound bag of food. With 4 hungry bunnies it doesn't last long!

I pay $15 for fifty pounds. Not even $15, more like $12. You're way being ripped off.

If there is a feed store near you, Mrs.PBJ or SnowyShiloh, you can go up and ask if they have timothy based pellets. If they have them ask to see the labels and see which is best- and obviously, read up a little on the best nutrition for rabbits before you go.

But, I noticed you only have one rabbit. You'd be better off buying 25 pound bags, so it doesn't end up spoiling. With three rabbits I finished 50 pounds in three months. You can, though, freeze pellets until you need them.

I use Purina, all of which are alfalfa based((which is just as good but cheaper)). I use the Show formula, blue bag, since 8/9 bunnies are show rabbits. XD I've heard that the High Fiber makes mushy poops and such. :/

I am going with Purina Rabbit show formula.

I know its Alfapha based but it seem a lot of member feed it to there buns if they have a lot and dont have any problems.

I need to save as much money of food for storm and the other pets as possible.

So I will also be teaming up with someone to buy a bail of hay.

Thank you everyone for the input.

It is my understanding that it doesn't really end up mattering what type of pellet (Timothy or alfalfa) because the large portion of thier diet should be hay.
So because my pellet is alfalfa, doesn't matter because I feed unlimited timothy hay.
I have no problem with purina show :)

snap makes a good point though. 50lb bag for a small bun like Storm - you could be dealing with a not-so-fresh bag of pellets 6-8 months down the road. It may last a bit longer if you portion it out into some airtight containers & freezing them? But I find about 20lbs for 2 buns of mine lasts me plenty of time. I feed shy of 1/4 cup a day for each bun. I hear freezing them helps them maintain nutritional quality.

What's the Purina contents?

My rabbits won't eat old pellets, I usually throw out the last 10 lbs of a 40 lb bag, and I have seven rabbits.

I've always thought that freezing pellets can conceivably make them wet, which may be an issue. More research would be great on that one.

I find that mixing the Timothy with the cheap ones is also a solution.

My bulk pellets are 12% protein, btw (although with the young Flemmies in the house, I switched to a 16% and now a 14%), and I'm mixing it with a Martins timothy pellet, a cheap but great pellet here in Canada. That gives them the higher fiber.

And I don't give them many pellets which encourages them to eat their hay -- tons more fiber there.

They also get huge salads (free) made from house leftovers and grocer compost.

I am going to eventually look into Purina High Fibre when I need more pellets. I might mix that with Oxbow BBT.

My friend decided rabbit ownership wasn't for her, so she ended up giving me a 50lbs bag of Oxbow 15/23....so I now have 100lbs (alfalfa/timothy) of rabbit food for 4 rabbits....no idea how they will finish it all. I might donate some to the humane society bunnies...make up "goodie bags" for when they get adopted.

I was looking into that at the feed store I went to yesterday. But I am looking into hay aptions first maybe if I can just buy cheap hay.

cause 10 pounds of food last storm about 4 months he only get 1/8 cup of pellets a day.

So I think maybe find the hay first and see how that goes
