Is Romaine the Issue (behind digestive discomfort)?

I've slowly been increasing Emma's amount of greens to help ensure that her gut is well hydrated, especially since I increased her pellet amount from 2 tsp. to 1 Tbsp. (i.e., 3 tsp.). She's less than 3.5 lbs., btw.

In the past, I've tried increasing her greens; it always seemed as if bouts of digestive discomfort struck a day or two thereafter;so I'dkept her on a very small amount of greens (about 1/4-1/2 C.)

Last night, she got a little bit more Romaine--the dark-green, thick leafy form. (The previous Romaine she'd had was Romaine hearts; so the leaves were more fluid-filled and less rough in texture, if that makes sense.)

I'm starting to wonder if she simply can't handle many greens and if the more "rough" (dry/thick) form of Romaine leafshould be removed from her diet....

I think that I cananswer my own question; it seems beyond coincidence that Emma's having digestive pain (and very loud digestive sounds) less than 24 hours after eating a more fibrous form of Romaine.

I've learned my lesson: Stick to feeding her the water-chocked form of Romaine (i.e., hearts). I'm alsoconvinced that her system will only accept a small amount of greens; she definitely seems to have a cap-off amount.

I think there is a threshold that a bunny can take, and if you don't over do it the bunnies are fine. You could increase the threshold by gradually adding more, but in your case maybe you went too much or too fast.

In Emma's case, I suspect that it was too much for her system, even though it was a lesser amount that a bun her size is often fed. I say that because I increased her Romaine content at a snail's pace over a two-week period.

Her sister has major digestive issues. I suspect that while Emma's sytem functions more normally, she, too, suffers upsets easily.

I think that I'll stick with the Romaine hearts and a maximum amount of 1/2 C. It's what seems to work for her.
