I have a male, middle-aged neutered Netherland Dwarf rabbit. He is very skiddish, but I go read in his room with him a lot to try and help that. He spends a lot of time in his plastic igloo hideout. I will sit and read, and then if I shake a bag of treats, he will come out, eat it near me, and then pee in the same spot as soon he is done. Then he will go lay down elsewhere or go back to his igloo.

Is he peeing because he is happy? Other than this, he only pees and poops in his litterbox so I do not believe this to be an accident (his litterbox has plenty of pee and poop in it).

There has also been some trauma lately in his life. His bonded mate passed away about a month ago and afterward, we move him to a new location in our home to give him more privacy. He now has free roam in a 10x12 room, we have a rug and rubber mat in there for him. He never peed after treats before, so I am not sure if this is related or not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! He was the non-dominant one and is very hard to read. I want to give him the best personal home for what he wants, which was different from his mate's.

I'm sorry your post got overlooked :(. Most likely, no one responded because they didn't know the answer. If he ONLY pees outside the litter box in this one scenario, I'm not sure what the reason would be but it doesn't seem like cause for concern (significant change in litter box habits can indicate a UTI or something).
