Is there a way to train a bunny to learn their name? If so, how?

I read online that clickers are a good approach to teach your buns things, but I'm really sure about doing that...

Yup. Some of mine definitely know their names (and some know others names, ironically. I have a bunny called Sandy who comes to both Sky and 'nanary'-my variation on banana).

You basically want them to associate their name with something good. So a treat can work well. Maybe start off by giivng a treat and saying the name, then work from there so that they realise the name brings a treat and then with time just start to call the name and give them a fuss or something like that.

Both Tony and Muffin come when I hold a treat and call "Tony, come!" It doesn't work without the treat though, so I'm not sure they know their names at all. ;)

lol yeah, that's what Snowball does. I've tried with and without the treat. But he never comes without a treat, unless I wave a papertowel around and say it. He loves to chase those.

Storm knows his name he may not come but I always say storm storm. And he will look right at me.

And he will come over to if he wants to be stratched. He has this one place right beside his tail he always wants me to stratch. Don't ask cause I don't even know.

Scone very definitely knows his name. I didn't train him, as such, I just used his name a lot when I was talking to him (and I talked to him a lot when he was young - still do, for that matter). It didn't take long for him to associate "Scone" with himself.

I'm sure he knows, because when we're sitting together in the living room (each of us on our chair), Scone always keeps an ear on me when I'm talking. When I say his name, you can see him perk up, and sometimes swivel the other ear toward me, too.

"Did I hear my name?"

"Did I hear my name?"

LoL, our ND knew his name - his ears would twitch and you could see him thinking....'hmmmmm, lets see...do I let the lowly humans get the thrill of my presence or shall I just ignore them.....yeah, ignoring them sounds good'.
He was SUCH a brat that way - but he most certainly knew his name:p

Thats what I did with Snowball. And occassionally, we'll say his name and he acts like he recognizes it. But the other half of the time, he doesn't.

lol, what a little rascal!

Maybe I'll just work on lil' Snowball some more to learn his name better. But he does that with me too sometimes! haha

Torvald knows his name, I go to his hutch and say his name and he comes up to the door for some lovin's, if I don't say his name he won't bother coming to the door of his cage. I don't think Ragnar knows his name at all- and he doesn't like to be loved on- but then I got him as an adult and he's still getting used to being handled for more than just a haircut. Sometimes I think Mystik knows her name, and sometimes I think she just associates my voice with food and goodies.

Yes, some of them can learn their names... I had a pet French Lop named Bailey who passed on a few years ago to cancer, and he knew his name. Everytime I went to feed him or offer him a treat, I'd call him to me with his name, and eventually, he would respond without food needed. :D

When I got Sophie he was like 5 wks old and I'd call him sometimes with a treat or just give him pets and he learned is name very quickly. So I never changed his name when I found out Soph was a male since he was so smart.

Flash too, he would run across the room to come to me. He knew his name even other names I called him. Just keep using their name over and over.

My rabbits both know their names.. we use their names a lot.. so sometimes they get a treat, sometimes they get petted, sometimes we're just saying hello. Wally is very responsive. If you say his name (or any variation of it) he'll come running over from wherever he is.
We'll use Toot's name when she's being a pest, too.. just a quick "Toot!" and she'll stop what she's doing (at least for a few seconds). Eventually if you keep doing it when she's tearing at the carpet or whatever, she'll toss her head and hop away.

oo, that's good to know.

Right now, if I say Snowballs name, he'll sometimes look at me. But that's it. I think he's catching on though! :D
