I've been reading this forum for awhile... thereis so much wonderful information here and I thank you all for being sosharing! I just joined to post a question of my own. I recently got twonew English Angora babies and both have developed runny eyes. They looka bit reddened inside the lids. They don't have any other problems atall... both are eatting well, play happily, have good healthy stoolsand no respiratory symptoms. They are getting their long shaggy headfur or "bangs" though now and the eye irritation seemed to start at thesame time as their bangs started growing thick. Even though I've neverrun into this before with angoras I'd had in the past, these bunniesare culls from a show breeder and have much thicker face furnishingsthan any of my previous bunnies ever had and I think it's possiblyirritation from the abundant new facial fur. In the morning I'm goingto trim the hair from the eye area and see if the irritation goes away, but is there also something I can use to soothe their eyes? An herbaleye wash of some kind? Also the running eyes have made their cheektufts sticky. Is there something I can wash the fur off with that won'tfurther bother their eyes but still remove the sticky residue?

Hello and Welcoe.

I wish I could help but I'm notexactlysure. The only thing I can think of is to try a sterile eye wash. Tryand flush any small piece of hair and irritants out. Cleaning Angoras Idon't know. Pam Nock has angoras and I'm sure she will be able to helpyou. Poor babies. Good luck.

As Tina mentioned, a human saline solution can beused to rinse the eyes and relieve some irritation. Do watchfor signs of the problem getting worse, as the vet will need to checkfor other possible underlying problems.

If the rabbits are not being shown, do trim the wool around theface/eyes. A tiny amount of antibacterial ointment can beapplied to any skin under the eyes where the tearing has caused skinirritation. You can cut the "sticky-stuff" off (carefully).

regular back tes tea bags , brew yourselfa cup of tea , when tea isbrewed let it cool tolukewarmwipe 1 rabbit eye withone side turn wipe other eye, throw away !!! use a new tea bag in the samemanner for the other bunny , run to thebathroom for the rest of thesay OR make iced tea for later .

Or a mild solution of warm saltwater and a lint free cloth will alsowork ,I just had to usethe salt water solution on oneof my babies who at 3 weks still hadeyes fused shut .

Thanks so much, everyone, both for thesuggestions and making me feel welcome! Did you hear that slappingsound? That was me slapping myself across the head! LOL!!! Duh... I usetea compresses on *myself* for sore eyes... I didn't even give it athought for the bunnies! Add the fact that I am also a tea fanatic, drinking at least six or more mugs a day so I always have a good supplyof soggy teabags at hand. Geesh.

Thank you so much for waking me up... guess I better go make a whole pot full so we can all sit a spell and have a cup together!
