So I rescued a cat from the freeway shoulder about four hours ago. She appears to have been just dropped there by someone not wanting her anymore - she has a fur dent on her neck from wearing a collar for a long time, and she's too clean, healthy and tame to be a stray - she let me walk right up to her and pick her up. She was staying on the shoulder (despite the rain) and not trying to cross traffic, like she thought someone was coming back for her...broke my heart. Anyway the animal shelter here says cats are free roaming animals and won't accept "strays", and basically refused to acknowledge that she has to be someone's pet that they abandoned. She won't survive on the street with the other stray cats. =/

So I'm going to keep her. I'm going to bathe her with flea and tick shampoo, just in case.

My question is, how do I introduce her to my Tank and keep them both safe? Will they get used to each other? Can cats and rabbits get along or is it a lost cause hoping they could be friends?

Edit: The title should say "bun" not "run". Curse my cold, numb hands!

It's annoying that we can't edit the titles. I thought you had a number of rabbits & wanted to add another,

Anyway, has your rabbit been neutered? If so, that will probably help. It makes it harder at first that cats can climb, so a gate between them probably wouldn't work. I have heard that a good first step in introducing any 2 animals is to exchange towels or whatever that has the scent of the one & see how the other reacts. If it's a neutral reaction, that's good. If the rabbit runs & hides &/or the cat starts attacking the towel, you have your work cut out for you.
