About two years ago we adopted a baby Flemish Giant bunny, since then he has grown to be about 17lbs and very spoiled. He has complete run of the house, day or night, bosses around our 90lb German Shepard, loves attention and brings a smile to our face every day. He is truly one of the best pets we have ever had!

Within the last week we had to euthanize both of our cats, one for complications of old age (he was 20) and shortly after an unexpected saddle thrombosis paralized the other. It has been a horrible week.

Our house seems empty now and we were thinking about another Flemish Giant bunny. We are worried that "Harvard" our current Flemish would not take kindly to another bunny invading his space. Can some more experienced Flemish owners give us their opinion on adding another bunny?

"Harvard" isneutered and did get along with the cats (as long as they knew he was the boss).

Thanks,

Art & Shelley

His breed and the breed of the new bunny aren't important - personality is what matters to bunnies! If you do get a baby, you won't know if they will get along as adults until the baby is neutered for at least a month. If you can find one at a shelter you'll be able to bunny date first and make sure they have a good chance of bonding. Unfortunately, how your flemmie gets on with cats and dogs doesn't really have a bearing on how he will get on with another bunny.

I agree with Laura, it depends on personality, not breed. Rabbits of the same breed can have very different personalities. What I would do is look at your local shelter and House Rabbit Society and take your Flemish for some bunny dates. See if he has a preference for what bun he would like to share his space with.
