Was the bunny trying to poop or has she been straining to pee?
Pee was totally fine, just straining to poop.
What was the pee looking like? Any red streaks? Was it very clear? Was she dribbling or leaking at all?
She says it was totally normal pee, no leaking or anything.
How old is the rabbit?
She's about 9 1/2 weeks out now, sold her at eight.
What was the poop looking like before it stopped?
She said it got a little mushier than usual the day she stopped pooping, but other than that it was normal.
How long was it going on for before she went to the vet? What was the treatment? Assuming that she got subq fluids, was there immediate improvement?
By the time she went to the vet, the bun hadn't pooped for...36-48 hours. Treatment was an X-Ray, a blood/urine test (for which we have not gotten results yet), and a vitamin B shot (standard, as I understand it, for GI and blockage). No subq liquids. The vet said he felt a big ball in her, and her temp was low.
Did she get a blood test to gauge kidney function?
Yes, but to my knowledge we don't know the results.
If it wasn't a kidney issue or a blockage, it could have been gas, they will show a pain response and strain to pass it, but that's usually a one-day thing.
I instructed her at the beginning to give a bunny massage to help and pass the gas if possible, but there was no real improvement. The belly was not hard or distended.
Assuming the vet is on the ball, an inflamed kidney I'd guess would present like that, but I've never dealt with one. If it was sudden, I'd guess a kidney infection or a stone, tho the latter should have shown up on the xray.
If its an infection, antibiotics and subq fluids should cause improvement.
None give or prescribed, yet.
Note that the pain from anything can cause a negative GI tract response as well as vice-versa.
