I have had my adorable baby lionshead Widget for about a month and a half now and I am so in love!!!!! Due to the other critters in my household, I cannot let her run free inside (dachshunds, cats, etc) so I have made sure she gets TONS of outside play time in her HUGE hutch and run. My question is on her inside house. My dear significant other brought home a classic hutch for Widget thinking it would be the best house......but now I'm kind of questioning that. Here is a pic of the same kind of hutch (it is large)

I'm wondering if she would be happier in a more open cage. I had put her "blankie" in the enclosed sleeping part of the hutch, and she will drag it to wherever she feels like laying. Sometimes in the sleeping part, sometimes in the open part where she can lounge and watch what is going on in the living room.

Just wondering what others thoughts are??

As long as she has room to stretch out, she should be comfortable. Remind yourself that you are doing what you need to in order to keep your bunny safe which is the most important thing. Having a "less open" hutch off the ground may make her feel more secure because it's further separates her from the other animals.

I did this with my bun when i first got him until I was sure how the animals would react to him. He was safe and happy and would binky and play.

Thanks so much!! She certainly has room to stretch, or lounge as we like to say :) I even put the hutch up on risers so it is higher up not only to give her a better view, but so she would feel more secure by being more at her human's level. She is such a happy bun....

To show just how much I love to spoil my kids.....I built a "catio" off of my office (I work from home). Took an old metal gazebo frame, attached it to the side of the house, and completely covered it in chicken wire. Then put a cat door thru the wall. Half the ground is covered in artificial turf, the other is natural grass. There is a log for climbing and scratching, a huge cat tree and tons of toys. This way my kitties can have all the outside time they want while providing safety to them and the hundreds of birds that visit my feeders every day!!!

:big wink:

Totally spoiled lol I was afraid to go with a wood hutch because of urine, so I opted for the plastic kind (which I love). I think your hutch is wonderful. Rabbits like little hidey holes so that should be just fine.

Just don't try the artificial turf in the rabbit's area. It'd get chewed up. The enclosed area is great. If you didn't have it, you'd want to add a cardboard hide box.

Looks good as long as the bun gets lots of outside time. One thing to consider would be to put down cardboard over a small section of the hutch if it has wire floors. Bunnies feet can have issues if they are on wire a lot.
Also what are you doing for a litter box?

I have this hutch for one of my buns. She's so used to having more room during the day, so at night when she goes in there's she gets quite unhappy with me. Granted she is a very large rabbit who used to have a larger hutch for night.

I really like the little room to the side and so does my bun. I put a flat cat bed in there and she enjoys sleeping on that.

For the wire side I put a piece of plywood on top leaving a small section wire that she uses as a litter box and it all falls through, very convenient!
