Hi there,

So, it is coming into summer here in Aus, and mum wants to get the house sprayed for insects.

I would like to know if this is safe for Rocky or not as it will get everywhere and there will be no escape.

I will take him away from the fumes whilst it is being sprayed but I am also worried about the residue left on things and if he chews/licks anything or himself after touching it, will he get sick?

Mum asked the guy at the pest control place and he said its fine, but Rocky is not a dog and I don't trust the guy on his bunny knowledge.

Thanks :)

Your post makes me glad I'm an adult & can control what goes on inside my place. I would never let anyone spray around me [except for termites]; most of the ingredients can cause cancer in people & the insects have bred themselves immune to the chemicals that killed their ancestors. And after all, if the chemicals really worked, the pest control people would be out of business, which they aren't. There are things that can be used that don't hurt people, such as boric acid powder, but you'll never hear about them from the chemical people, as you can apply them yourself.
Could your mom time the spraying [I'm assuming she won't listen to reason.] so that it coincides with a vacation trip, so the worst of the air pollution will be over by the time you return? Good luck. :clover:

Hi, thanks for your reply.

Just to clarify, I am an adult, I just live with my family until I can afford a place of my own. Unfortunately, yes, that does mean that ultimately I am not in control of the decisions concerning the house.

We dont go on vacations so we cant plan this for during that time. In Australia we have a big problem with insects like ants and cockroaches due to the climate and it is common for houses to be sprayed for insects and quite often necessary.

I need to know if the chemicals they use are harmful to rabbits while airborne or as residue on the ground or furnishings in the house, and if there are alternatives that can be used that people might know about that I can ask them to use.

And also, I am not concerned for myself I am concerned for my rabbit as there are a lot of chemicals and medications that are safe for cats and dogs but not for bunnies, and I was wondering if anyone know if this was the case for house spraying also.

Thanks

You can get information from searching for: roach chemicals rabbit. Also go to binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/aft/38308/Default.aspx

And if the exterminator would give you the names of the chemicals he uses, you could search specifically for them.
