Well, I'm 4'11" (and probably have been since I was 2
) and have heard just about every short comment there is, so I can empathize with your plight. They never really bothered me; but the odd time when a tall person would pat me on the head...now
that ticked me off! lol Oh, that and people thinking I was much younger than I was, most likely because of my height. I recall being in a store when I was 16 to purchase some things for the upcoming school year. I was entering grade 10 at the time. A kid approached me at one point and asked what I was buying, and would we be going to the same grade together. He was 11 and was going into grade 6. :X
However, I have had a long time to get used to my height, and don't really notice any more - unless I stand next to someone really really tall. (Mind you, when I was married I was teased quite a bit, as my husband was 6'1".) As you get older the comments tend to fade - though the odd one might still get tossed your way. Just treat 'em like water off a duck's back, I say.
(btw, ever hear the song, 'Short People'? That came out when I was dating the guy I later married, and boy did I hate it! Danged Randy Newman.)
P.S. I just love the line that is quoted in the movie, 'Seabiscuit' (as a racehorse, he was a shorty in his field). Seabiscuit's jockey, Red Pollard, is being tossed a barrage of questions about his mount as he is entering the track, and is asked about his confidence in Seabiscuit's ability. He responds, citing Shakespeare, "Though he be but little, he is
fierce." I love that line.
And the fact that Seabiscuit went on to defeat War Admiral, the biggest, fastest, horse in America.
So if short comments get to you, just think of Seabiscuit. I do.
