I finally got around to doing my income taxes yesterday. I was positive that I would be getting a refund. Not so - I owe $2,600:shock:!!!! What a letdown. It's a good thing we don't have any state income tax here.

Anyone want to take up a collection for me?

*calls out* Ohh Sparky..Scooter..mummy needs some pats and nose rubs at the moment

:big wink:

Ugh!..that sucks Patti

Florida doesn't have a state income tax? WI has the worst income taxes ever!

Have you checked your W-2s and made sure your withholding is correct, etc.? That's a huge amount to pay!

I'd donate money, but the tax refund check I just got is replacing the emergency fund money we put in an IRA so we could get a bigger refund. It works out to having more money, but we were darn short while waiting for the refund to come!

Do you and hubby file separate? If the shelter you work for is IRS approved, and you itemize, you can take the mileage you drive and any supplies off. Keep a little book - I think they give you around 14 cents per mile deducation.

We file separately because he is self employed and it works out better that way. I did take the mileage deduction. I drove two really long distance transports for Bunderground this year. I hate filing taxes!!!

If I think of anything else I'll let you know. We have a lot we deduct. We just had our CPA do ours - Hubby isn't self employed but has a lot of things that are --- required for his work that are our expenses. Tools for one. He's a heavy equipment mechanic. Also, we have clothes that he cannot wear otherwise, boots, other supplies he purchases on the road.

We nit pick on all of that. So we discussed my wanting to help out the rescues and suprisingly - hubby was positive about that.

Oh do I ever understand how you feel. I figured we wouldn't be getting a refund...but I didn't realize we'd owe as much as we do either (let's just say that the tax relief thingy....will cover what we owe...almost).

In our case - I added my job - plus I added mystery shopping - and I forgot we'd be losing Eric as a dependent....OUCH.

Oh well...I'm glad I plan on filing on 4/15......at the last minute!

I hear ya, Patti. Im technically a self employed consultant since I work for my dad and he gives me a 1099. I dont pay taxes throughout the year just at the end. I had about 2500 saved up for taxes and then my transmission went out and I had to pay 1500 from my savings.

So Im having my taxes done Thursday and Im dreading it. Im sure I'll owe at least 2k and have no clue how to pay it! Im trying to find any and all expenses I can to bring my income down-at least I have loads of donations and mileage to count!

How about a shelter makeover? :p

I always have extra deducted off my paycheck, so I get backa nice sum. There is no deadline and penalties ifyou have a refundtoo. But filing early, I get my money back sooner. :D

Wasn't Sherman a rescue?Wasn't he a Midwest 'Catbit'? You can honestly claim you delivered him to a volunteerfor Stay-A-While Cat Shelter. Don't forget the mileage to and from Elmore, OH and the food and supplies you bought for him.

haha yeah good one Anne! Not to steal the thread but how is my little Sherman doing?

He's doing great. He's turned into such a sweetheart and lap baby. And he's gorgeous. I need to get pic's.

Patti, I feel for you!
