I just have to share about my new job. Right now I'm on a bit of a "high" from getting stuff organized....

I've gone back to merchandising - and I'm working for four - no - make that five - companies. My current "regular" assignments go like this:

Once a week:
Visit Dollar General #1 in my area and do the greeting cards
Visit Home Depot and stock the candy (Fridays)
Visit HEB (grocery store) and straighten the diabetic products (Fridays also)

Every other week:
Do cards in 2 other Dollar Generals plus a Family Dollar
Visit Walmart Electronics & Photo Departments to check out Sony products

Once a month:
Visit all my Dollar Generals and work on the reading glasses and jewelry (straightening it and placing orders)
Visit two pharmacies and work on certain products (different each month)

That is in addition to other projects that come up....which can be a lot. For instance - this week I had to do a "reset" in each of my Dollar Generals and Family Dollar in the greeting cards - since Father's Day had passed we were switching the cards to summer seasons. Next week I'm doing "resets" on juices in those stores if they haven't been done. (A reset is when you take all the products off the shelves, clean the shelves, put it back in the new arrangement and put on new price tags).

Sometimes I feel like I'm juggling...here a store...there a store...everywhere a .. store ... store.

Fortunately - all of my stores are within about 5 miles of my house (or less - 3 of them are less than a mile away).

But let me give an example of my schedule....

Tomorrow morning I want to be at Home Depot at 7 am to put out candy (90 minutes). Then I'm going to race over to Walmart (across the street) to talk to the health and beauty dept. about some products and seeing what is in stock and what the prices are. From there I go to HEB (grocery store) and do a few projects....like my pharmacy call there where I straighten the diabetic supplies. Then I hope to race to the other HEB and do a few things (ha ha - that stop can be dropped). Then I go to my last Dollar General - do three short projects (put out coupon boxes, pull some discontinued girls' and womens' underwear and put up new price tags & items, plus work with the makeup for a few minutes).

I hope to do all that by noonish...so Art can go into work early.

Yeah...I'm laughing too. Unfortunately, other than the HEB stops....everything else has to be done tomorrow because it is due by then.

Next week? Oh - I go BACK to Walmart on Monday (did I mention I was in there last Friday also??) for my Sony project...then I have a mystery shop to do...and I forget what else...if I remember right - I'm making it a light day because Eric will be here that day - so if I get out to Walmart by 7 am - I can be done by 8 - do the mystery shop (at a computer gaming place) w/ Eric before lunch...and have fun.

Then Tuesday and Wednesday I have full days.....Thursday I have (GASP) - OFF - and then Friday its a half day sort of - only Home Depot, HEB and one Dollar General....

Is your head spinning yet? (I know Art's is when I talk about it).

But the thing is....I have a hard time keeping jobs for more than a year or two because I get so darn bored once I learn the job. With merchandising - I did it for four years before Art retired from the Air Force and only gave it up because we were moving to a small town and I didn't think I'd find enough work to keep me busy (we needed me to work full time).

Art teases me sort of - that either I'm whining 'cause my legs are killing me (this is only my 2nd week back to work) - or I'm hyper 'cause I've got stuff planned, etc.

Oh - and crazy me - I applied to another company today that has projects in my area too!

Anyway - I'm in the "hyper" mood right now and I just had to bounce and share and sorta brag on myself....'cause...

MY PAPERWORK AND SCHEDULE IS SET FOR NEXT WEEK........(UNLESS ANOTHER PROJECT COMES UP)...

Thanks for letting me ramble...

Oh - and I *might* be picking up a $130 jewelry reset at Walmart on June 30th. I'll take Robin with me (its 70 miles away - but we go through there to take Art to the airport to go visit his mom....and I have to stop in that town anyway...). I hope I get it - they need it done ASAP....and I've told them I can commit to doing it the 30th but I haven't heard back.

By the way - with the two of us it will be about a four hour job I think...

Anyone got some juggling emoticons? I think I need 'em...

:biggrin2:

Well - forget having Thursday off....Tuesday's work will probably be bumped to Thursday as I have a chance at a $180 reset for an 8' jewelry section at Walmart....the gas to get there (round trip) will be $35-$40....but I am going to try to pick up a couple more jobs in that same store that will pay for that...

Things sound way rough even though they're good at the same time. I wish I had more to offer as far as advice goes, but you did ask for some juggling emoticons and I can definitely help you with that.

I just wanted to let you know I hear you and you'll be in my thoughts. Feel free to vent, complain, or just share something fun or cool whenever you want. We're here for you.

Oh my goodness!

Are youa very organized person? I thought my schedule was tough sometimes but I'd not know if I were coming or going on a schedule like that.

It sounds awesome - you must be able to meet and talk to a lot of people, and the variety would be nice as well. I don't like being "stuck" in routines very often so that aspect of it sounds great.

As for HEB!! I haven't heard of them anywhere other than Texas, which is where I grew up... so I have to ask... what does HEB stand for? As children, we always referred to it as "hairy edward's butt".

It stands for Howard E. Butt

The story of H-E-B began 100 years ago in a tiny family shop in Kerrville. Today H-E-B serves families all over Texas and Mexico with over 300 stores and 56,000 employees.

H-E-B's commitment to excellence has made it one of the nations largest independently owned food retailers. Yet H-E-B's success has not changed its commitment to giving the customer exceptional service, low prices and friendly shopping.

A Family Business[/b]
In 1905, Charles C. and Florence Butt moved their three sons from Memphis, Tennessee, to Kerrville in the Texas Hill Country. With an initial investment of only $60, Florence opened the C.C. Butt Grocery Store on November 26.

The youngest son, Howard E., became intrigued with the grocery business. He took over the family business in 1919, upon his return from World War I. In 1924, he expanded the Butt Grocery Company with a new store in Junction, about 60 miles from Kerrville. Howard's motto was, "He profits most who serves best."

Charles, the youngest son of Howard E. Butt, became president of the H.E. Butt Grocery Company in 1971. Today, Charles Butt is chairman and CEO of H-E-B, having grown the business from sales of $250 million in 1971 to $11 billion in 2003.

Florence Butt opened her first store with a set of beliefs that were passed on to her sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons. Good principles and a can-do attitude, whether times are good or bad, are at the heart of H-E-B's success.

[line]I'm not overly organized - except for when I'm merchandising - and then I have to get my schedule and paperwork organized.

Let me share my schedule for this coming week...

Monday:

Walmart:
Pull old AOL dvds and destroy them (1 hour - $9)
Check on Sony products (1 hour - $10)
Work in HBA (Health and Beauty Aids) - 90 minutes @ $10.75 per hour

Mystery shop: EB Games ($10 + $5 reimbursement)
Sears ($8 - no purchase required)

Tuesday:

Walmart (70 miles away) -
Reset jewelry rack - $180 (5 hour job for one person - we will have three people working on it)

I may try to pick up more short jobs in this store @ $10.75 an hour - and I may pick up a mystery shop at IBC Bank for $10 (teller shop)

Wednesday:

Dollar General:
Audit Clorox products (see if they're in stock, etc) and Kingsford Charcoal - 45 minutes @$9 per hour
Audit Diaper and Baby wipes - 15 minutes @$9 per hour
Magazine return (pull off covers - dispose of magazines) - 45 minutes @ $9 per hour
Set up a Gatorade rack & *maybe* reset their juice section if it hasn't been done already - up to 3 hours, 15 minutes @ $9 per hour

Thursday:

Dollar General:
See Wednesday - add in Stock greeting cards & place order - 1 hour @ $9

Friday:

Home Depot:
Stock candy - 90 minutes @ $10.75 per hour

HEB: Straighten up diabetics items and check expiration dates - 15 minutes @ $10.75 per hour

A few other projects - about 45 minutes @ $10.75

Small HEB:
A few other projects - about 15 minutes @ $10.75
Dollar General:
Audit Clorox products (see if they're in stock, etc) and Kingsford Charcoal - 45 minutes @$9 per hour
Audit Diaper and Baby wipes - 15 minutes @$9 per hour
Magazine return (pull off covers - dispose of magazines) - 45 minutes @ $9 per hour

I think that is it - it seems like there is something else.....but that is SO FAR....I may get more things added in my Dollar General stores - and even in HEB.

I also picked up a bunch of mystery shops tonight - I had taken a break since early May (when I went home to my mom's). Let's see...I've picked up:

2 Sonic shops on July 2nd
HEB shop due July 2nd
3 gas station shops
1 UPS shop
IHop (for today or tomorrow)
CATO (I love that shop)
and I forget what else...

I think what is hard for me (I hope this makes sense and I don't offend any men reading this) - is that so often - we as women "juggle" things more - between work, home, kids, etc. Or at least that has been the case in our family....

....and I feel like I have all these things "juggling" in the air - and I'm sorta proud of myself for juggling them - and I'm really proud that I'm doing well on my jobs...but Art doesn't really "get it" - the feeling of accomplishment I get when all my paperwork is in the right folder - or when I've tweaked the schedule to make things fit.

I think that's why I came on here to post...I was so pleased that after being back to work for two weeks -I was finally getting stuff together....getting organized again (for paperwork and schedule - NOT my house).

The crazy thing?

(I applied w/ three more companies today and sent out a letter to two recruiters too - in case they have projects come up in my area).

So...who wants to kick me? (I think Art is volunteering to be first in line).

The neat thing is....Art & I share our car - but he goes on midnight shift June 30th and will be on it for 2 months - meaning he'll work from 10 pm - 6 am and I'll have the car the rest of the time....which means I can work longer days (I try to rush home now to be here so he can have the car by 1 pm).

I meant to reply to this last night but the forum was being a pain!

i was going to say feel free to come to scotland and organise me anytime!! :D

Unfortunately - the only thing I can organize is projects (setting up a schedule to get them done) and the paperwork.

The rest of my life....is a mess.
