Okay, first, I know y'all are going to read thisand think, what a drama queen. Well, forgive me. And, I'm going to trynot togo into huge detail and bore you guys with my personalproblems.

Okay, here we go:

I am 'supposed' to be starting college for the fall semester at ourstate university here. (Louisiana State, whoopty freakin' doo). But, Idon't live in a swell household, lot of problems, lot of issues. (Myanimals are my therapy :craziness)

Okay, well... I took out a $2,500 Stafford loan through Sallie Mae tocover the first year of college, as well as a $3,000 Perkins schoolloan, since I was getting no financial aid. Well, Iamthinking about canceling my enrollment into LSU. I want tocall Sallie Mae tomorrow and see if there would be any penalties incanceling my student loan too.

If I accept the loans, I can only go to LSU for 10 days before theloans are finalized. Meaning, after 10 days, I can quit LSU, drop out, whatever, I still have to pay back the entire $5,500 loans, in full. And I don't want to go to LSU, I don't want to live here, I hate thishouse, and I want to scream. (Does that simplify things abit?)

If I accept the loans, and I start LSU, I have to go there for twoyears before I can transfer to another college (You have to earn 30credit hours at the colleges I want really want to go to).

If I drop out before then, I still have to pay back the entire loanamount. And then, I cannot receive another Perkins loan, nor canItake out another Stafford loan through any company to go toany other college until that loan is paid off.

And if I don't want to go to LSU in the first place, and by doing so Iam making myself live here (God help me!)for 2 years, thenwhy sign a 2 year agreement, basically? Why not cancel, and try toapply for the Spring semester at an out of state college (GOUMAINE!!!!), which would have me in college, andout of stateby January?

Does ANY of this make sense?

Now, I just need some friendly advice. I'm so nervous and freaked outand confused, and I don't know what to do. I want to go to UMaine sobad, I have forever. But I was past the deadline when I went to applythis year. I'm scared about canceling my loans because once I do,that's it. There gone for this year. I'm scared about NOT canceling myloans because that's it, I'm stuck with them if I do.

Another HUGE FREAKIN' PROBLEM is, all my animals. They can't come withme. I can't see getting rid of them, and leaving them in this place outof a nightmare is not an option, because they'll end up at a shelter oron the doorstop of a pet store, I assure you.

Please, someone just write back and say something! Anything!

Okay, I'm done now.

I don't think that it's unusual to have secondthoughts and freak out when a major life decision has beenmade. Take a deep breath and stick with your original plan.

Somehow, this is all going to work out, even though you are very overwhelmed right now.

Also, start networking through your friends and see if there is someone who will be able to take in your animals.

have you made any decisions? you know, 2 years is not that long. it goes by in FLASH!! aren't you moving soon anyways? does that have any effect on this schooling situation?

Our system works a little different and when I went away to college the course wasn't what I wanted to do, I had to stop a year before I could change. I did change and really enjoyed the second course. I was lucky though, I was in the last year of students who didn't have to pay to go on to study at university. So although I did have to take out loans to help with living expenses they we'ren't too huge.

Is it possible that you could defer college for a year and then apply and go to where you really want to go? Could you maybe work for the time you're not there and save some money for when you leave home and go to college?

It's difficult because as pamnock and ivegottogocalderon said, 2 years isn't very long and you will probably meet so many great people that you will get lots from the experience. I suppose that the main factor if you do go then swap might be paying the extra loans back after you qualify.

Is the house move still happening?

Good luck, whatever choice you make will be the right one. I think that you should follow your heart, because if you're not happy in what you do then you won't do it as well as you can. Just make sure that you make decisions for the right reasons! (my friend dropped out of college for a boy (they only lived 50 miles apart anyway) and although she's never said, I think she regrets it now, even though they're married!)

Well, I would have to say, if you don't like your living situation right now, get out and start your own life.

Can you go to that university and live away from home?

Also, if you move, I really think you could find a way to keep your pets with you. How many do you have?
