HELP! Rescue needed for a Schnauzer mix Senior

Please don't let the word "Senior" scare you off. She's already been declined by one rescue because no foster wanted to deal with poor Duchess' age.

This sweet little lady was abandoned at a hotel. The staff wanted her euthenized but a special angel stepped in and brought her to me. There is very little room at this "inn" either, as I'm full up too. So I'm pleading for help.

We've had her here for over 24 hours and at first, she was terrified. So terrified and confused in fact, that she hid under the bed and only came out when she had to go to the bathroom. Might I add that she is a very, very, very curtious lady and has not once messed in the house. She will hold it untill offered a chance to go to the bathroom.

By last night, she would creep out from under the bed and crawl into my teen ager's lap while she sat on the floor.
This morning, we found her exploring the house, tenativly. We have noticed that she may be deaf, however. As calling her name gives no response, neither does whistling, clicking or squeeking a toy (although, she loves squeekies once she realizes you're trying to hand her one).

She gets a bit too excited about cats and squirls, however, and even for an old-lady, she has a good strong pull on her lead when one goes dashing past her.
Her eyes, are clear and vission is perfect.

She also has three noticable tumors. I'm not sure if they are fatty but will have my Vet give her a good look over and test them.

She loves kissing, and seems to enjoy the company of children quite a bit! She's attentive to my husband and will sit quietly at his feet while he watches the game or a movie. She does not jump on furniture and in fact, seems a bit nervious about it, but she is fond of sleeping at the foot of my youngest daughter's bed. (she snuck in there, last night)

I know she may not have as much 'time' as a puppy or young dog, but what little time she has will be filled with so much gratitude.

If you are an older Lady or Gentalman or perhaps know of a sweet senior friend who could use some warm fuzzy company, please let me know.
I promise she is well worth the effort. If you are among other rescue group forums, please cross post. This darling has been through more then enough instability in her life and change frightens her.

I just got off of the phone aftera 45 minute conversation with the lady, who I actually KNOW - first met on a forum that closed down 3 years ago, then met in person when she adopted from the pound I work for.

It really is amazing how small the world is!

As far as her cat/squirrel issues go, I have a split level home, and the dog is somewhat wobbly on her feet so baby gates at the room doors and stairwell should work nicely.

Aww, wow. That is so sweet of you to adopt the sweetie :). I hope everything works out well and you can enjoy her for the rest of her time on earth .

Sounds like a real sweetie!!

Be careful of this though, "She gets a bit too excited about cats and squirls, however, and even for an old-lady, she has a good strong pull on her lead when one goes dashing past her." Buns running by might excite her. I would keep them separate.

Can't wait to hear all about her, and see pics!! She sounds adorable!! :biggrin2:

She is home, and right now snoozing away.

What a cutie! She looks like she has some yorkie or silky terrier in her to me, which would also explain the squirrel issues.
