Hi! Pebbles is probably just under 7 months old, but she is still pretty small. She's probably 1/2 the size of her mom (Don't know the size of her dad). She was the largest little chubs in her litter. Her ears and feetseem to be growing, but her body is still staying quite small. I was just wondering if this is due to possible cross breeding? Or a genetic defect? She is also very lean with long front legs and a lean body.

Here's a fairly recent picture of her.

She looks part lionhead to me - but it could be the angle of the picture. If she's a lionhead cross - it could be possible she'll be smaller than her mom - depending upon what her mom is and her dad is.

Can you give mroe specific weights or something to help us out?

Peg

Genetic factors. She's got long, fine bone and appears to be lacking the Dwarfing gene thatsome Lionheads have (hence the long ears and narrow face).

As Peg mentioned, she's very possibly a Lion mix -- so no telling what breed dad was as Lions have been mixed with many breeds. Generally, those crossed with Holland Lops have heavier bone. Pebbles bone appears to be as fine as the Polish or Britannia Petite rabbit. Netherland Dwarfs are commonly used, but her feet appear rather long and narrow for a Nethie cross.

Thanks! I'm not sure of her weight, but I can get measurements if those would help? I tihnk she has some polish in her as you mentioned, because she has the same long lean legs and long body... When she's standing causal, she looks almost exactly like this:

Here's another angle if this helps.. She has a big of a shaggy mane, and a bit of a beard like thing on her chest, but I think it's baby fur because it's brushing out.

Thanks!

She does look a lot like the Petite. The mane that she has is from the Lionhead breed, however, many other breeds have been mixed in with the Lions.

Wow, what an unusual looking bunny! Do lionheads usually have that much mane? I haven't seen very many, they aren't shown around here a lot yet.

I don't think so. She is quite odd. She's starting to grow a mane down her back and it's parted where her spine is. She's starting to look quite commical, but she's still my baby even if she does look a tad bit off. A bratty baby to boot!

Yes- many of them have long manes. I'm thinking that this rabbit may lose its mane because the mane doesn't look like "crimped" wool which is hard to describe but you'd recognize it if you see it. Lionheads that are mixed breed lionheads tend to lose their mane (from my experience and what I've heard) since they don't usually have the mane gene from both parents...and even the double maned (having genes from both parents) lionheads will frequently lose their mane.

Basically - they are a breed still in development!

For more information on lionheads you can visit www.lionhead.us as that site has lots of useful information!
