Ok, so as everyone knows, these past couple of weeks have been just plain AWFUL! Found out my daughter is gonna have surgery (thats actually this thursday morning), then she got sick and had to go on antibiotics. Now the antibiotics have caused a yeast infection, so MORE MEDICINE. Then Olivia had to go to the vet and she had EC. Then back to the vet for 2 of her nails curling and they are now going to remove them. Then the other night i see a problem with her back legs...she has sore hocks. And NOW, she is peeing orangish red!!:X I dont understand where this is coming from. There has been NO diet change. She hasnt had anything extra as far as treats go. She hasnt eaten anything shes not supposed to. I dont know what to do!!!:? I really just want to cry:tears2::in tears: Is this madness ever going to stop!?!?!?!

thanks Jj....i hope it does because I am ready to leave and go to a deserted island for a week and get away from all of this!! I really want to pull my hair out!

A little good news for you. Orangeish red is a perfectly normal color for bunny pee. As long as you don't see streaks or blotches of blood, then it's just pigmentation from the food. Hang in there

Well I am glad that its nothing serious. The weird thing is, when she pees on the kitchen floor (which she does all the time, cant seem to get her to stop) its yellow, and then after its sits for a minute or so, it turns colors...is that normal?

My guess is that the pigments are reacting to light. I have seen the same thing when my buns wee on the pee pad. It starts yellow and turns orange/red. It's not blood so there's nothing to worry about.

You may want to change cleaners for your kitchen floor. She may be able to smell the old pee and as it gets less strong she gives it a refresher. Enzymatic cleaners tend to do a better job at removing all traces of urine.

Thank you for your help. Reacting to the light makes sense. My kitchen has 3 windows so it gets alot of light in there. I use pine sol on the floor. But I will try the vinegar. I have used that on my carpet when our dog was house training and it got her to stop peeing in the house, so maybe it will work for Olivia

Faith has the same color urine, it scared me too until I asked my vet about it & she said it was normal.
Sometimes life really fills up our plate, doesn't it?

Sending you a big hug!

EC is a big thing, is that cleared up?
Sore hocks, nothing a little Preparation H or bag balm won't fix. Reddish urine=normal. Take a deep breath, give your bunny a hug and worry about your daughter!
Wait...give your daughter a hug and don't worry about the bunny!

haha Corely. Thanks that defintely gave me a good laugh. The EC is all cleared up. Panacur for a month cleared it all up and no more seizures thankfully.

Hang in there! My mom's bun used to have that reddish orange pee every now and then as well, and she lived a looong healthy life :) I like the advice of bag balm for the hocks! Bag balm is so easy to find in almost all pet stores here!

I don't have any advice of any of her different ailments, but maybe try taking her to another vet. My rabbit had a bunch of different problems (snuffles, mites, sore back legs, not eating, etc) and they all turned out to be secondary ailments. She has immunodeficiency, which is why she couldn't fight off those other problems like most rabbits can. She kept getting sick from different problems because her immune system was too weak.

So keep trying! Hopefully you can figure out if there's something wrong with her that's causing all these issues, and put a stop to that. :)
