I would really like to adopt a friend for Rocky from the RSPCA but I am not sure how big a cage I will need if I eventually put them together.

Any suggestions on floor size? I have a large-ish dog house turned bunny house but I am not sure if it is big enough for 2. I cant remember the floor size.

I am getting a run to put outside on the grass during the day when the weather is good but when I bring them under the pergola at night I want to make sure they arent cramped :)

Well where would the new rabbit sleep when they aren't bonded?
Yes. I'd make the cage bigger. Most people tend to use a play pen or x-pen as their cage.
Good for you for wanting to adopt! Have you heard about bunny dating? It's where you bring your bunny to the SPCA if they allow and let the rabbit choose a friend.

Ok bigger cage it is! They will be under my pergola out the back so I will have to use my brain to make a big cage for them. Just brain storming at the moment I will make sure I have everything set up before I go to the RSPCA.

As far as I know we don't have bunny dating in Aus or at least where i live. We have the RSPCA here but they don't often have bunnies and the facilities arent so great which is a shame. The big shelters are at Yagoona in Sydney which is about 2.5 hours away.

Maybe they will let me take Rocky there to have a sniff of the other bunnies and I will take home the one he gets along with. He's pretty easy going so if there are any problems it will be with the other bunny I think lol

Big cage for them? You do mean 2 seperate cages right? Don't move them right next to each other for a bit. Give time for the new bunny to settle in and relax, this can take up to a week or more. You definetley do not want to start off their bonding on a sour note. Rabbits remember the first impressions and it can take a good while to change them. If you want to maybe start bonding them but not sure if both are spayed or neutered try switching toys or menial objects. Let them see how they do to this "intruder" smell. Then you know a tidbit of how difficult their bonding will be.
Bunny dating isn't normally advertised, just pop in and ask "Can I bring my rabbit here so he can pick out a friend? He's neutered." They could say yes or they could say no. Ask questions about which are the sweetest does and all their personality, pick one you like and think would be a good fit for him and then let them interact at the SPCA and see how they do. Good signs are relaxing and pretty much anything except fighting, growling, ears up, tail out prominently and all the things like that.
You might be suprised how quickly Rocky's personality can change...
Well best of luck!

Thanks for the tips, I am fine with the bonding, just needed to know about cage size for when I eventually have them together, if they bond well.

Sorry, should have mentioned that I was just thinking ahead, I have another cage I will put the new bunny in until he/she settles in which I know might take a while and it is large enough to be permanent if they don't like each other.

Just wanted to know what would be considered large enough for 2 bunnies when and if I need to get a big cage :)

Hey for sure! Maybe just a hutch or something like a play pen, but definetly bigger then a little as I call it "pet-store cage" which is a little one floor cage that with everything inside the rabbit would take two hops to the ned. The ideal size is for a rabbit to be able to hop three or more steps from front to back. (depending on size) or more. Just big enough that the rabbit can stretch out comfortably with litterbox, toys and everything!
Awesome job!
