Should I look into part time employment?

  • Yes-definately

  • No-the costs of raising a child require full time

Ok guys, here's the story:

Currently, I work as a legal secretary in a very small office. I leave at 7:00 am and get home at 5:30 every day (dark when I leave, dark when I get home). I'm very much a person who needs to be outside with the fresh air and sunshine and it's hard being cooped up all day. Oh yeah, and most people who come to an attorney are having a bad time and are in a very bad mood- why can't they understand that I didn't put them in that situation?

Also, my husband and I are expecting our first baby in May and childcare costs are pretty extreme as we both work 40+ hours a week.

Anyhow, there is an opening in our District Court system for part-time work. I was thinking it may be easier to do this since it would cut down on our childcare. Also, I've been looking into making my art into a business and working more with horse training.

My question is this: Should I look into the part time job along with my crafts, rabbits and horse training? What are your experiences with childcare costs? Please, any help is appreciated greatly.

Here are some of the things that i would look at while trying to decide what to do. How much is day care? How much does it cost you in gas? After working 40 hours and paying for gas your whole paycheck might go to just that with very little left over, so in that case it would not be worth it.

Then there are other questions like are you financially able to live off of one income?

You might be able to get a part time job when the hubby is at home like nights and weekends, this is what i am looking into doing, this way you dont have to pay for daycare. You might be able to get a person you know babysit the baby for you at alot less then a daycare, well that is if you have anyone that you would trust to sit for you.

I had to try to figure out the same thing too, we could really use the money here and i could go to work at the company where my hubby works for a pretty decent amount of money. But after weighing what i would pay my mom to sit for us, gas money and then the traveling time back and forth to work it was not worth me doing it, so instead i have put in two applications to do soemthing at night from 5 to 10 and then on the weekend mornings. THis way my hubby will be home and if my mom would have to sit for me it would only be for about an hour. good luck deciding.
