When I first got Reddit I read alot of information about litter training them. I understood the whole "wait till he has a corner and put the box there with some of his pellets in it". Apparently he didn't understand it. Its been two weeks and from what I've read rabbits are supposed to be relatively clean creatures, not going to the bathroom where they eat or drink. But thats exactly what he does. I thought that maybe his food dispenser was just in the corner that he usually urinates in but when I moved it and replaced it with a litter box he followed it right on over to the other corner and still urinates right under or around it. Also is it usual for a bunny to leave pellets all over the cage rather then in one place? Its like a mine field in there. What can I do to help him get trained?

Actually rabbits do pee and poop where they eat. Well most do. Or they like to nibble on hay and go while theynare eating.

Also, alot of rabbits will never be 100% potty trained on pellets. They still tend to leave a few here and there. But of course, their regular poop is dry and odorless so not a biggie.

I would try putting some hay in the litterbox. And still of course watch which corner he pees in but don't let the stray poops confuse you as far as the pee corner. Also, some buns are picky on litter too so experiment there too. Lastly, an altered bun will be more likely to be litter trained.

Good luck!

Yep! I put the pellets, hay, and water right next to the litter box just so they have NO reason to leave it :) I get the occisonal poo here and there but thats ok i dont mind... Or like my females are doing.. They rebel!! but those are the teenage hormones! :p

Also, I believe it was one of your photos (and I apologise if I'm wrong) that showed that you lined his cage with bedding. This can also confuse him because everywhere looks like a litter box. Putting some textured peel and stick tiles over the metal bottom is a better solution. Also, it'll be harder for him to kick his droppings everywhere that way.

And as far as the potty corner, you need to look for a concentration of urine, not poops. He'll get some in the box and some out until he's fixed, but it'll never be 100%. I consider mine fully litter trained but I still sweep up a few poops every morning and night.

my avatar pic was from the first day we got him. we had shavings in the entire cage, now theres only litter in the litter box, and no shavings at all. thanks for the ideas about the tiles. we also feel he doesn't have enough room so we're going to add another level to his cage, especially because he likes to hop up on his feeder
