I just talked to Miffy's breeder and found

Mini Rex, a black otter mini rex to beexact. I always thought that mini rex's had a different typeof fur but I very well could be wrong. She has incrediblysoft and silky hair, I could pet her for hours if she would letme. And I found out that she was born on Sept.25, '05 (my daughter was born on Sept. 24 '01!) So now I knowthat she is almost 1 year old, I was told that sometimes rabbits do notgo through a big molt the first year. From what I can tell,she has not yet, just some hairs on the bottom of the cage when I cleanit. She said that her daddy is real laid back and calm andher mom is on the nervous side, so it looks like she takes after herdaddy somewhat. It is nice to know where she came from, andif I ever want to get her a companion she said to keep her inmind. (although my next rabbit I am wanting a flemish!)



Anyone here have mini rex's? I want to find out as much info as possible about them.

Do you have a pic of her, i have had a standardrex and as far as I know their fur is very different, i assume thatmini rex's have the same fur?

Yes, here is the most recent of her.She has a very soft and silky coat, not like the ones I seen at thecounty fair here.

The rex coat tends to be shorter than most andis likely to stick straight out from the body. It's very tough to tellfrom the picture but it doesn't LOOK like rex fur.

I thought most rabbits went through a "juvenilemolt" when they shed their baby fur. I could bewrong. Mocha had a full molt at 6 months and is starting atleast a partial one now that it is fall.

she looks like she has some of the mini rextraits..but she just doesnt look like she's full.. maybe amix? her ears arent quite right somehow.. and evenfor a mini rex, she looks tiny! cutie though

and mini rex fur is very very different from other bunnies.. it's softand velvety..not slick or silky imho.. crinkly whiskers too..almostlike they dont have any sometimes

as for the molt, i dont think either of mine have had a full molt, andthey're both over a year old.. mr licks just went through a pretty badone, but it wasnt as bad as i keep reading about and if princesswent through one at all, it was very slight..

I have mini rex's and I agree that doesn't looklike rex fur in the picture. But my male rabbit has fur likethat, and he's a pet store mini rex, not the best qualityfur. So she may just be a mini rex with low qualityfur. Her head shape definitly says mini rex to me though, sothe breeder is probably right.

My pedigreed female has fur that is much shorter and thicker, andalmost seems to soak in the light, and your bunny's fur seems toshine...

Regardless she's still beatiful....

Hmmm.... One possibility, she may come from a line of rabbits that wasstarted with a mini-rex and a cross of another rabbit with the ottercolouring? That would explain the low quality fur....

How big is she? She appears to be aNetherland Dwarf mix -- not Mini Rex. Just because someonebreeds rabbits doesn't mean they actually are knowledgeable about themor that they even know what breeds they have.

I agree with you Pam about breeders when they dobreeding of any kinds. I know that the petstore down the street from mehad Holland lops and the sign said mini rex. I asked the manager and hesaid yeah they are mini rexes cause that is the only kind we get alongwith Lion heads and some larger breeds. I started to laugh and said Ihad one of the buns that looked just like Abby. They are not rexes andhe said well what are they. I said Holland lop mix cause mini rexesears are upright and the lops are downright. He laughed and saidoooooooookkkkkkkkkkk prove it. So I did he felt small and changed thesigns. He smilled and said thank you for pointing that out. Now I amgoing down there to get a job so I can help out a bit.

I have 2 standard rexes, spiced77 is right aboutthe ears, the don't look like rexes, look on my thread (Millie andRuby's thread) if you want to see some rexes tocompare.Could be a mini rex mix? My friend has just boughta netherland dwarf and he looks like your bun.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but arent Rex's theoriginal "velveteen rabbit" .. The last Rex I stroked had furas short as velvet, and with that feel too .
