I had a bit of an impromptu decision to join the gym today. I was mooching at my friends house and he said he was going to pick up my other friend to take her to the gym and sign her up. I went along and ended up joining too. Its a very posh gym, I used to go there but I was only 15 and on my Mums account, and when she couldn't afford it any longer I had to stop. Its about £44 a month but it had a lovely pool, jacuzzi, steam rooms, gym, free classes etc so I'm going to make the most out of it!

I had a major workout, feel really good now! I don't have my official key yet so I can't look up how much I burned at the end of it all, but it felt so good! I feel so energised. I went to the gym for about 45 minutes then did a few lengths in the pool.

Looking forward to my Yoga class on Friday! We were going to for belly dancing but I don't think I should unleash my belly on anyone until I've at least been there a month or so!

Aww cool, good for you!:) I joined a gym about 2 years ago, and while I felt incredibly self conscious in the gym bit, I managed a while on the cross trainer and then swam for at least an hour in the pool. Swimming is my main thing, but due to my back and dizziness I've not been able to for about 18months.... sob! :(

Your new gym sounds great! Definately make the most of the jacuzzi and steam rooms lol! :p

Well it sounds like you really like it =) i have a gym membership and i have to drag myself kicking and screaming and force myself to workout. and i hate it.......i'd rather be home reading a book! lol......so good for you. yoga is really great for strength training too. so good luck!!

I think the fact that it's costing me so much is making me want to go! Paid my £30 subscription fee but I get the rest of the month free. I'm going to make the most of it before I get too bored :p They have loads of really good classes too. I need to book in my programme so I can work out what I need to do at the gym each day. I'm only on a guest key at the moment, so I can't see how many calories I've burned or whatever on the screen yet.

I rowed 1500 miles whilst singing along to Mamma Mia yesterday!

Going after work today and then Yoga tomorrow!

The one thing I hate about gyms is all the nakedness. There are all these women wandering around half naked with their bikini bodies! I was a bit worried about whipping my towel off at the pool, my friend said 'Look who is around, some 60 year old women and a fat hairy man'.

lol.....we have women at our gym that wear spandex shorts but are cut up high so their butt cheeks fall out the bottom and for a shirt they wear a white sports bra and that's it. it's so gross. and then i come along in the biggest tee shirt i can find trying to hide the best i can.....lol....although they probably look at me and my size 12 figure and say "ewww look at that slob"....lol... in time you learn to ignore it and not feel self conscience about it.

I don't have a gym membership, but the nakedness comments remind me... have you seen volleyball uniforms?

I don't/can't play volleyball, but it was big at my highschool (We won state several years recently).

It was sickening watching guys watch volleyball games.

It was an all-girls school, so we girls were plenty used to seeing out classmates.

You see in England we don't have like school showers. I go (went) to an all girl school (i'm at the same school but its 6thform so we have boys) but you only had to get changed like clothes infront of the other girls.

I retract my comment about ladies with bikini bodies. Today I walked into the changing room and was encountered by a rather old fully frontal naked woman with her hands on her hips staring at me. She preceeded to look around, hand on hips, then sat down on the bench and rang her friend... NAKED.

Yoga tomorrow! Ah, I'm so inflexible I can't even touch my toes.

i went to high school in NY and then in PA but we never had to shower after gym class or anything. wait until you see some old wrinkled lady in a thong!! believe me you'd be surprised what people are proud of wearing and they walk around like they own the whole gym....it's pretty amusing..lol

We had showers, but didn't have to use them. I think the swim and water polo teams did after morning practice, but that's about it.

We did have to change for pe though in the locker room.

oh yeah we had to do that too........i was horrible in gym class. i literally almost had to take it in summer school my senior year just to graduate......always hated competetive sports. but i didn't mind changing in the locker rooms. at first i was mortified and then i met my friend laureen who introduced me to lingerie. so then there was a group of us that would try to wear the most outrageous underclothes we could find....lol....this was back in the early 90's before everyone (like half the 6th graders) dared to wear thongs. back then wearing brite purple satin panties made everyone laugh and wish they had a pair. oh well, we had fun back then. guess i'm a little competetive after all if the best part of gym class is getting voted for having the prettiest panties!!

LOL! When I joined my old gym I was really self conscious of going into the pool in front of everybody and walking round in my swimsuit. Then I realised they were all old men and women, and felt so much better lol! Give me that over a gym filled with good looking guys any day- I'd be too scared! :p

Fran, you've made me REALLY want to go swimming now... I wonder how dizzy it would make me, having no balance, and bobbing about in the water... I might have to try and see!

Give it a go!

The only bad thing about the pool is that its more 'fitness' and less larking about. Although we did manage to invent a 'healthy' game where we (4 of us) held onto each others ankles and 'swam' together, so the person at the front is arms (i was NOT good at that) the 2 in the middle have to do good core stability and push the other one forward if they need it, and the person on the end is the 'feet'. We got some funny looks.

Yoga was SO FUNNY and diffcult and I couldn't do any of it, so I'm going back next week! We did loads of weird positions but it was such a good stretch, except at one point I was doing 'downwards facing dog' (standing on arms and feet in a sort of 'A' position' and my friend who works there kept waving at me and making me laugh. When the weird tribal music started we all giggled, and at one point we had to lie on our backs with our legs to our chest and circle each knee around in a really dodgy looking way which made us all giggle. My favourite part had to be the 'deep relaxation' AKA sleep. I don't think I fell asleep but someone else started snoring! Its all that 'orb of light' stuff. And 'breathe in a colour' (I chose yellow!) Overall it was really good but it did make me giggle quite alot.

Think next time I'm going is Tuesday because I work on weekends and its my friends 18th on Monday.
