Ok so I have a black Holland lop named Anakin born on 4/19. He is super sweet and even though he's still new to my home (I got him from a breeder on 6/29) , we are bonding really well. I do have a few questions that need specific answers, so I thought I'd ask for your help.

1.) The breeder that I got Anakin from came outside with him in her arms when I rang the doorbell. She didn't have an enclousure where I could put him down and see how he hopped set up outdoors, so I just gently tugged his legs to make sure they all worked. I asked to see the other rabbits she had, and she explained to me that they were all in her basement in makeshift crates because the extreme heat wave we had was too much for them to handle(she said she lost several from heat stroke before she coulf relocate them all). As you can imagine, the makeshift cages were pretty small, but from what I saw conditions were good and the bunnies seemed healthy. When I brought Anakin home and set him down to see him hop, I was a little worried about his back legs. He seemed to kind of army crawl instead of hop. Since then, his hop has improved and he's even doing binkies, but still does his army crawl. Should I be concerned, or just patient while he grows and gains strength?

2.) I made the mistake of introducing cilantro into Anakins diet, because I read first that it was ok to introduce greens to young buns slowly as long as you kept feeding pellets and, of course, hay. He seemed to absolutely love it. I monitored his waste and it was still solid and fine. Then I read that babes should have no greens at all at his age. Do you think it would be ok if he still got a little cilantro here in there since I haven't noticed a problem?

3.) I have a pretty large rectangular cage for Anakin. I was told by a friend to start off by putting the Carefresh all over his cage, but I think it's confusing him. I want to take the Carefresh that isn't in his litter pan out of the cage, but will he be uncomfortable laying on the cool plastic bottom? Is there something else I should out down that he would like better?

Any and all feedback is GREATLY appreciated. I feel so lucky to have found such a friendly and caring group of people to go to when I need information I can trust.:)

1. The way he crawls could mean that he was in a tiny cage and not able to move much or he was on a wire based cage with no rest spots, i would just wait for a bit and see how he gets on, as he is doing binkies so it mustn't be hurting him too much, but if it doesn't improve or if it gets worse then i'd bring him to the vets.

2.It is best to start feeding veg at about 4-6 months, but with my very first bunny i didn't know this and she was fine with having veg from 10 weeks, i think it would be fine to keep on feeding him cilantro, and i usually start feeding all my bunnies at around 3 month old anyway, and your bunny is 3 months old, but make sure you introduce it all really slowly.

3. It will be a lot easier to litter train him if the carefresh is only in the litter tray as if it's all over his cage then he will think it's ok to pee and poop everywhere as the carefresh is in his litter pan too, you could put newspaper on the bottom of his cage while he's learning to use the litter pan so if he does pee and poop on the cage then it will be easy to clean up, then when he's fully litter trained then you can put blankets down or just leave it bare if you wanted to :)

My bunnies also do a "crouched walk" thing if I take them somewhere new or if something has changed and they are unsure. It could be that. I'm am sure poor muscle development due to little run time and a small cage are also having an affect.

Don't introduce any more greens and greatly limit what you have introduced him to (give a small sprig as a once in a while treat, etc)

Litter only in the litterbox! You were right to trust your instincts on that. I'd put a rug down in his cage that can easily be thrown in the wash (those cheap rag rugs are good.) While it might be nice and cool for him to lay on, the plastic bottomed cages can be slippery to hop on.
