The other night I had a dream that I rescued a rabbit from the pet store. The rabbit was rex, but had my bunny, Morgan's, body frame. His color was turqouise and he had yellow and purple hearts as his coat pattern. He was dead, but on his back with his legs up in the air...then he suddenly came alive and RYAN said we had to save him! WHAT?!?! He didn't even put up a fight with me in my dream!

Now to real life. Keep in mind that I decided to not get my two rat babies from the person 80 miles away, one way. I decided that I didn't want to go through introductions with my rat boys and thought it would be best to let themselves enjoy each other and not have to worry about babies busting into their lives...since they are getting older and babies don't like to lounge in hammocks all day...

Thursday night I got a call from an old friend whom I lost touch with for no reason last year. She just turned 18 and her mom always told her that when she turned 18, then she would have to leave the house (talk about mean!). Well, she is moving in with her boyfriend and his mother until they get their own place in a few months.

She couldn't take her pet rat with her. She called me up and asked if I could take her in because she knows I am the best rat mommy in town. Well, I talked with Ryan for about 5 minutes and he said, "Well, I think you should get her. Call Alyssa back right now and let her know she can bring her over tomorrow after work."

Uh...what? Ryan just let me get another pet without putting up a fight? Just like my dream? Freaky.

So, now I have "Buttercup" here. She is a PEW (pink-eyed-white). She is probably around 1 1/2 years old, or a tad older...so I know she is of old age and could pass away any day...but I decided to give her a home anyway. She looks EXCELLENT for her age, which is suprizing because she has never been to a vet and wasn't fed the best diet ever.

I met Buttercup many times when she was a baby, so I have "known" her for a while and had always adored her since I could go to Alyssa's house and pet her whenever I needed a "rat fix" after my Fayl passed away.

Buttercup loves to give licky kisses, too. She is a sweetie and I am shocked that I have a female pet in my house, lol!

She is living in our bedroom in a temporary cage for now. I do not want to put her in the animal room because rats can breed through the cage bars and I have 3 males...one is neutered, though...so they can play together. I wish she could have a friend or two, but if that happened...then I would have to stick to female rats...and I really love male rats for their laziness...females tend to be very active and hyper.

She looks great and sounds very healthy with her breathing. I didn't do a quarantine since I do not have a place for that, but in certain cases...it happens and it won't stop me from taking in pet rats. I take my chances and it is risky.

She is going to go into the vet with us tomorrow though because her left eye is much larger then her right eye and I think she may have some sort of infection going on there. I also want Dr. Luna to double check her lungs to make sure there is no URI in there.

Pictures tomorrow, she is eating like a pig now and I am letting her settle in....even though she seems to be doing just fine!

Congratulations! And I second the need for pictures, even though I get the feeling she looks just like my Stevie... and Peppermint and Cranberry and Colby :biggrin2: I love PEWs!

We went to this vet this morning and brought "Buttercup" along. Dr. Luna was very kind enough to give her an exam for free and give us Baytril for free. She is on Baytril for a small URI and to try to clear up an infection that might be in her eye ball. She is also put on Neopolydex eye drops.

ETA: Dr. Luna said the reason why her one eye ball pushes out more is because she may have a tumor or an abcess under that eye. She also said that given her age (probably near 2 years old)...a surgery sounds too risky and we are going to try the Baytril and eye drops...and go from there.

I am going to take pictures for you all right now :p.

Ever since I've seen your ratties on this site, I've fallen in love with rats and have actually considered getting a rat in the future as a pet. Not now, but it was once a "never" and now it's a "maybe someday." So thanks for that!

I can't wait to see a pic of your newest addition! She sounds so sweet.

Here are pictures of "Dahlia" (I almost always rename new pets) :):

You would never guess that she is close to 2 years old. She is so active and loves to run around and play...she is very quick! She also looks great for being an "old lady" :).

She's really cute! I have such a fondness for the PEWs because my first rat when I was a very little girl was one.

I miss our rats and it's so hard to think of them sometimes... but it helps knowing from reading what you have talked about - that they were all just getting really old.... and I know they were all very happy!

Ahh she's so cute, I love how her little toes are all spread out on all the different surfaces, like she's a teeny bit unsure how to walk around on them :D. In the third pic she looks like a startled cat :p.

Dahlia is truly a hand full. I feel almost guilty that she doesn't have a baby girl to play with. I still can't believe she is almost 2 years old...I am in complete shock. She always wants to come out to play and I feel bad because she doesn't have a friend!

We went to PetSmart today to get my kitty more food and they had a hairless female rat there in one of the tanks and I wanted her soooo bad, but I know that I shouldn't but a pet from PetSmart. It is so rare to find a hairless here though. Gosh, I would so die for more hairless ratties...or rex...ahh!

Aww she's so sweet looking....i really like this picture of her though,it made me giggle.....kinda reminds me when i have seen some of my bunnies do that kinda thing when the ground has been wet....they arch their back and walk on their tippee toes....they don't really do it anymore but they did it a lot when they were younger lol...they just flick their feet now..silly buggers.
