I know it is him. I was at the HS yesterday applying to be a volunteer.

I looked into the kitty cage behind the door, he was there....I saw his face and immediately burst into tears. I knew it was him from the second I saw his face. I read his tag and it said he was 7 months old. Zaide was about 1 year old, so it was close enough. I think Zaide was born in March or May, can't remember.

Not only did his face immediately give it away, but the size of him. He is dwarfed, just like Zaide was. I got him out and went into the kitty play room with the staff member....I held him and cried....he was JUST like Zaide. He was an adult cat, stuck inside of a kitten body. It was normal seeing a "kitten body" act like an "adult body" to me.

Here he is...

Here is Zaide, keep in mind he was about 4-5 months in these pictures...

The cat at the shelter is dwarfed, has Zaide's eyes, his personality, his coat texture, his skinny tail, his everything. There was also grey kittens in the kennel with Zaide when we adopted him.

I want to go to the humane society today and adopt him, and then either foster him and only adopt him out to someone I know will take care of him correctly until the end of his days (I don't care if it takes a year to find that person) or I will keep him and drop the "wanting a 2nd dog" thing for a while...and then bring it back up if the kitty gets adopted or in 2-3 years when I am rat-less.

I cried all night last night. I am posting in a state of "panic" right now. I am just so emotional over this. I know it is his brother. Now....to get through to Ryan. We have a lot on our plate because of the wedding on May 2nd.

I just can't sit back and let this kitty go on to where ever he may go. The HS here adopts to you if you've got the money. It could be anyone getting him.

:cry2

Aw, Amy, I know exactly how you feel... Remember back in September when I was going down to Washington and I found Tallulah's mother for sale on a web site? They looked so similar and it was her mommy (I confirmed it with Tallulah's breeder, who had just given her to the woman who was selling her), how could I not want her. The timing was perfect and we were already planning on getting another bunny. Paul said to go for it, but the diabolical woman who had her (believe me, I have plenty of justification for calling her that) wouldn't sell her to me and THEN said it was my fault if she never found a home. It still breaks my heart (and makes me mad!) to think about it. I was so close to having my girly's mommy, it would have been like having a little bit of Tallulah back. Lots of tears were shed.

Having said that, I think you should do everything you can to get Zaide's brother. Tell Ryan that yes, it will be stressful with the wedding coming up soon (wow, less than a month!), but the month or two of added stress won't be anything compared to the hopefully many, many years of love and companionship the kitty will give you. Not to mention the healing that Zaide's brother could do for your heart.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Don't let that stop you from trying to help the cat - can you work on promoting his responsible adoption by contacting rescues etc?

I contacted the cat house rescue here where my kitties came from, and they are full :(.

Really, all I want to do is adopt him & foster him until I can find the best home possible.

I'm really torn up over it. I can't just go and adopt him though, Ryan would have a cow.

He may have been adopted today, I do not know.

Is the dwarfism in cats solely in certian strains or breeds?

I fostered a Himalayan and her litter when they came in to Animal Control since they were so young and ended up keeping back one of the kittens, Raspy. I had him almost 7 months but he never grew past about the 12 week old stage. His health was never horrible, but he was always a frail little guy, despite being negative for feline diseases and illnesses.

He was eventually adopted by one of my brothers friends, but they've since moved to Florida so I really don't get updates anymore.

I am not sure. Zaide was part Persian and was from a hoarding situation...and that is all I know. His sister (Zuni) had an ulcer behind her eye, so she is now blind in that eye...she isn't dwarfed, but she is very tiny. Zaide's brother (Dexter) has bowel & urinary issues...he is also dwarfed. Then there was Zaide....he was healthy and acted like a kitty should, but then just died abruptly :(.

I am going to look up dwarfism in kitties because I am now curious.
