I :heartsPEANUTBUTTER!

That said, almost 2 years ago I was at the house minding my own business eating when IT happened.

Took a nice big bite, chewed - chewed, swallowe... uh-oh!

Peanut butter in my throat. swallowswallowswallow - no luck.

Grab a cup fill it with water tip my head back, pour it in. Swallow motions but no penetration. Leaned head down over sink, water rolled out.

swallowswallowswallowswallowswallowswallow- no luck.

PANIC

Eye telephone through buzzy head, look out at neighboring house - could call 911 (but what if swallow happens after I call, could go to neighbor and scare little kids to death)

Eye the silverware drawer - possible poke downwith a butter knife? Yeah right... Cant breathe - poke hole in throat to open airway (tracheonomy)? Too buzzy headed and busy trying swallowswallowswallow - can't hold still enough... Would be bad enough to be found all suffocated without the additional mess, plus poor Pit Bull pal would surely be seen as blame...

buzzy head, buzzy head - Oh for cripes sakes - I'm gonna die over a peanutbutter sandwich?

Maybe sit down and think? Sucks, this living alone - how long until someone REALLY misses me?

Sit down = CHAIR! DUH - see what panic can do to even the well versed in emergency response training?

SELF-ADMINISTRATION OF THE HEIMLICH MANEUVER

To apply the Heimlich maneuver to oneself, one should make a fist with one hand and place it in the middle of the body at a spot above the navel and below the breastbone, then grasp the fist with the other hand and push sharply inward and upward. If this fails, the victim should press the upper abdomen over the back of a chair, edge of a table, porch railing or something similar, and thrust up and inward until the object is dislodged.

...

Emergency over, drink some water - take shower, calm down and call family just to "chat" and let them know how much I love them (no mention of attack of PB was relayed).

Congratulations on being able to eat and swallow your Peanut Butter and honey sandwich, which sounds tastey btw.

I can understand where you are coming from during your time of need (choking on PB sandwich). That happened to me many years ago but it was with Double Cheese Pizza. Boy does one ever panic, and like you I had training in the medical field, i was a nurse way back then. But everything I new knew went out the window. I pounded my back which believe was not easy.

I hope you can enjoy PB/Honey sandwiches more often now.

Susan:)

Peanut butter is a really bad thing cause you can't get it to move a lot of the time! My kids didn't get to eat it until they were about 3 or 4 and then only a thin layer on bread or a cracker.

I love it too and so do they but you have to be careful!

I'm glad you are ok and you ate another sandwhich finally!

:shock:I lived off it. I wouldnt eat much else.

Oddly I choked on something when I was 12. Had recently read how to do it in a book and did it. YAY ME! My mom said I am odly calm when things happen. :D

Years back I almost choked on a piece of raw broccoli.
i remember that i was living alone in my studio apt at the time.

i thought to myself .."I am choking " and then all at once it went down the right way ..

that was before I had rabbits so what I would have missed..

To those who eat peanut butter
1) Don't eat it off a spoon while you are making a sandwich

2) Don't wad it up in a ball..spread it out>...
3) Always keep a glass of milk around to wash it down.
eat peanut butter carefully and it will be your friend :p
