So i own a beauty salon and 1 of my members of staff has left after nearly 6 years as she didn't want to travel to work every day. She got offered a job in a room with a hair dresser (as a member of staff not working for herself) and the Hairdresser has put adverts in our local papers saying new salon with my salons name in brackets.

A couple of my friends have seen it and say's it makes it look like i have taken this room on myself which i am really annoyed about.

No offense to anyone who is a hairdresser but a lot of times its an after thought to put in a beauty room and the rooms are small and don't come up to regulations, so that they can add on services and make more money.

I have worked so hard for nearly 8 years to build up a stand alone salon with 7 rooms in it and a huge treatment list, because i feel Beauty should be a stand alone thing not an add on and i don't want my business's name associated with a hairdressers. i am so angry at the moment.

sorry for ranting :(

Well its printed in a newspaper so its a bit late ! i wouldn't mind but they have

health and beauty by *********** (neroli)

the* are my ex therapists name. anyone who knows her knows she worked for me and because it doesn't say formerly of then it kinda looks like i have taken the room on and put her in it.

What do you think?

well i thought a solicitors letter. But the damage is done now as its a full page ad!! not exactly small.

The girl that owns this salon is a relative of my neighbour and her salon is not up to scratch (just from comments i have had from people that have gone there and had their hair done) there is no way i want that assocition with her

If your business is registered (I bet it is) she is not allowed to use that name as it belongs to you. You should contact the hairdresser manager and tell them that the business name is yours and explain that she is an ex employee and you would prefer the name be changed. :)

That's way out of order! I would definitly get the solicitor involved. Besides the cheek of it, if people are mislead to think you're involved and it turns out a really shabby business it could make you look bad. I wouldn't let them get away with it.

Take Bill with you and go give 'em what for! :D

Hope you get it sorted.

i agree with msBinky i would pursue it and contact them about taking out another add and rectifying what they printed. I could see if they printed something like, formerly from such and such salon, but not the way they did it.

I dont understand the room thing. Salons from where i am it is a store, a sort of large room with mirrors and chairs all around the outer wall of the room, it is funny how things can be so different everywhere.

Yeah the salons in america tend to be a lot bigger and the beauty salons have the mani/pedi chairs out front and rooms in the back for the waxing and stuff.

We just have a reception and the products for sale out front and all the treatments are doen in rooms.

Hairdressers have the mirrors and chairs out front and what they tend to do is use a small storeroom and convert it to put a treatment couch in. A lot of the time they don't even have hot and cold running water which is illegal over here in a beauty room.

Thanks Jenson that made me smile i will set Bill on them (or at least get a smile thinking about it!!):D

I agree with Jenson- get the solicitor or whatever you Brits (LOL) have over there. This is misuse of your company's name which can mislead customers, potentially damaging your reputation and/or taking clients away from you who think this is part of your business.

I don't know what it is like over there, but here if she used your name she had to have permission. It doesn't matter if she worked for you - she doesn't now.

Hi guys just thought i would let you know i spoke to my solicitor this morning and he is writing a letter to both the hairdresser and my ex therapist, basically saying that we are no way affiliated with them and that if they use my name again that we will sue for a % of their earnings so hopefully that will stop them:)

Oh Polly I've been off line for a while (graphics card when belly up) oh poor you!

I bet you feel really let down by this person, 6 years is a long time.

I am glad you've sent a solicitors letter I would want it making very clear that they are not associated with you. They basically are trying to get business from your name and reputation....not on! :nono

I am angry for you! But hey you sound like you have a fantastic place anyway, I personally wouldn't really be interested in a treatment in a pokey backroom when I could have a nice treatment at your place!

*hugs*
