i have 2 rabbits one is 13wks old (holland lop) and the other like 9yrs old. well my lil 13wks old rabbit managed to get out and met up with the older one without me knowing. i go out to check on him and a half dollar size was taken out of his ear. most of it was bit of cleanly except one spot where now its flappy. its open and im worried abt infection. i just need some advice on proper cleaning and maintnance. and if i should some how fuse the pieces together. or wrap his ear to make them heal fused back together. its like a half inch open insecion that needs to get put back together.

Wash the area with Betadine, keep it clean. If its a very fresh wound, you can probably have it stitched back together, although this is cosmetic, not really necessary.

I've tried bandaids and even liquid bandaid, it never works very well.

Do you have a photo?

Keeping it clean is the most important thing to do. Like sas said, use betadine. You might also want to give the bun pain meds (metacam) if you have it. As far as stitching it back together you would have to do it within 12 hours of the fight. Stitching is purely cosmetic and most of the time too difficult to do on the ears. The only reason to stitch it up is if you don't like how it looks. I have had this same thing happen to two rabbits and didn't have it stitched. The vet said it wasn't worth it. The ears healed fine and just look a bit different, but I don't mind and the bunnies don't either!

i dont mind the look. its just one part is not a clean cut and there is abt 3 cm of flesh exposed. i dont have bedodine so i just used water with a medium pressure

sorry to hear about your poor bunny :( hope the ear heals well!

as for how to put pics in a thread:

go to http://photobucket.com/ and upload pics

after you upload, select a pic and on the left you'll see a box labeled "links" - click on the line for "direct link" and it'll auto-copy it to your clipboard

on these forums, don't use the quick reply at the bottom - actually use the "reply" button on one of the posts

there are two tool-bars on top of the message box - look on the top bar and find the icon that's second from the right-hand end - when you mouse over it, it'll say "insert image"

click on it and it brings up a box - hit ctrl-v to paste what you copied from photobucket... and voila! you have a picture right in the thread where you need to show people something:
