So I know this is a pretty basic question, however due to how my cage is, I am finding it very difficult to decide how to make a second level. I drew a little diagram to help explain:
Sorry I accidentally submitted this thread by mistake -_- anyway, this is like an overhead view of my room.
The dimensions are 56x84" (accidentally wrote 54) so it is large. Wooden dowels seem to be my best bet right? But how would I be able to put the wooden dowels in the cage? Because on one side there is no "cage" it's just a bare wall?
How tall is your x pen? Are you going to add a roof?I think I'd build a Frame "stand" for the 2nd level...perhaps out of 2 x 2s and just attach it to the sides....
Ah, that is a very good suggestion! I remember thinking of that way before I got my first rabbit but now I totally forgot thank you. It is 42" tall, I was planning on making the level at the "4th wire" going across which is around 24" off the ground - I am planning on building a ramp rather than having them jump onto it.
How are you attaching the pen to the wall?
I wouldn't be worried about them jumping out if it was 42 inches, but once you add a 24 inch shelf, they'd only have to clear 18 inches which certainly sounds doable to me. I would either go without the shelf (and at 4.5 ft. by 7 ft, it sounds like they'd have plenty of space) or consider putting some sort of roof on it, at least above their shelf.
I will be screwing in screw eyes? To the wall and ziptying them together. I could buy some chicken wire or something and close off the top part since it is possible that they could jump out, however this girl that you may or may not have heard of has a cage and there is only 14" of cage at the top with no roof and she has 2 rabbits - however I am aware that all rabbits are different. I do suppose that 4.5x7' is big enough, but I would really like to make at least a second shelf. I could make the second level 48"x56" would that work/ be big enough for 2 rabbits to comfortably lounge on? and it would only be 18" off the ground - if I were to make it that size
