First off i'd like to say any idea's will work!! So my 7 month male rex rabbit doesn't seem very happy with his boring old cage. In his wire cage i have a board (for him to sit on,) a few ball toys, chewing sticks, a litter box, and a fruit-kabob.

-I'm looking for ideas on how i could design his cage. Also what i could get him to make him a little more happy and a little less bored!! Please help!-

And please don't tell me that nothing will work, etc... Thanks!

He needs more space, to start. Store bought cages are much too small for bunnies :)
What do you have to work with?

Yes, more space and stimulation would improve quality of life. He needs some opportunity to exercise his normal rabbit instincts (digging, grazing on fresh forage).

It would be great if you are able to give him access to an outdoor enclosure where he could dig in the ground without digging his way out of it. We did this by burying the fencing 2 feet down into the ground.

Varying the diet also helps add a bit of novelty: a salad of mixed greens once a day, a few different kinds of hay, and some fresh grasses, weeds and twigs (from a variety of trees and shrubs).

For one rabbit, they should have at least a 4 foot hutch with a nice big run for them to run around in. I would say for one rabbit their run should be 6 foot long. It needs to be high enough for them to stand on their hind legs also. With a place to dig and places to hide and jump up on.

I would recommend making one yourself, they're much cheaper and much bigger for you bunny. Your bunny will love you forever!! :D

Hey 1357, I like your run! How did you get 4 rabbits to share it peacefully? Our two rabbits get along very well, but from the posts of others, it seems uncommon to find 2 that get along so well. Four sounds over the top!

I have two bonded pair that will play together with supervision, but don't live in the same space. I found that bonding a male and female (both fixed) was very easy, but getting all four to play nice needs the occasional intervention. I haven't tried really hard to get them all four to live in the same space though.

Have you thought about bunny proofing and letting them have a room to run around in? One pair has my bedroom and the other has my office, then they play together in the living room. I think having all the space and free access to people makes a rabbit very happy. Then again, I very much enjoy being a speed bump :)

NIC panels are great to help bunny proofing. The pair I have in the office like to get into more trouble, so I have the panels lining the perimeter of the room to protect cords, base boards, carpet corners, etc. The pair in the bedroom don't mess with stuff, so I put cords up to be less temptation and just have a gate across the door. They still have bunny specific spaces to call home and meet their needs (litter box, places to hide, dig box, toys etc) but they are more like the cats that they get to roam free without a cage.

If you change to this system be prepared for daily binkies and bun 500, it makes for a much happier, active rabbit. :)

Mine are all related so have grown up together from the start (Mum and 3 babies) I obviously neutered my buck(the brother/son) because i didnt want babies.
They live together and get on fine. One of my girls was a bit dominant to the other rabbits but would never bite them just nudge them with her nose, i got her spayed and now they all get along great! :D
