I don't know if any of you have thriantas and are wanting to breed them, but I know that many people drop the breed because they can't get them to breed. Well I know a new thrianta breeder who was very successful and got both of her does to have kits. I asked her how she did it, and she said that the lady she got the second doe from told her you need to put one buck with the the does and they will breed. She doesn't know why that works but it does.

This might also be helpful with other breeds if you are having trouble.

Hope I help somebody:biggrin:

Could you clarify one buck with the does?

Sure. Lets say you have two does andone buck. You find a big cage or small room and put them all together for about a day and a half and they should be breed.

I would think 2-3 does per buck. Hope this clarifies:)

As a breeder I really wouldn't recommend this way of breeding in general to all thrianta breeders and especially other breeders.

There are exceptions with every animal and a certain level of danger when putting two rabbits together. Bucks can certainly become sterile after a bad run in with a doe.

I have seen at a show a colony of thriantas (8-9 rabbits) in an x-pen but the rabbits were always being watched and there was definitely some dominant behavior that was exhibited followed by separation.

Others can disagree with me but I really see it as a safety issue if any agression is shown. Also you can't really be sure the doe is bred because you didn't see the buck mate with your own eyes. This isn't including other factors being that maybe the buck or doe is infertile, etc.

I also worry about injury. We don't leave our breeding pairs unsupervised. However, I do know of people who are successful leaving their breeding pairs together for a period of time.

This is just what I know. It does seem to work though. What the breeder I know does it puts them in a big cage or room so they each gave about 2 square feet each
