How many hours is it between the 1st breeding and the 2nd breeding? I thought I had gotten this answered last year with Sage's first litter, but couldn't find it in any of my threads....

SoI was just curious again, how many hours should I wait to re-breed her after I've bred her the first time?

Emily

Studies published in Domestic Rabbits stated that it is most effective to re-breed within one hour. In previous posts I've explained the complex timing of sperm capacitationsynchronized with therelease of the eggs.

Waiting for 8 hours or until the next day is completely ineffective.

We have always bred our does 1 single time because it is more efficient.

Alright, so if I were to breed them before I left for my 4-H meeting (at about 5:30) and then bred them again when I got back (at 8/8:30-ish) would that be ok...or would it just be more efficient to breed them once?

I could go out and breed them now, and then breed them at 5:45, too, I guess.

ETA: Okay we are going to go out and breed them now, and then rebreed right before the 4-H meeting. ;)

The optimal time-frame is to breed within 1 hour. Waiting longer is no more effective than a single breeding.

Alright well we got Sage bred, but now we have arrived at another problem!

Taj (our new buck) will not mount and breed with Chancey. She was mounting him and when I tried to put him on her, he would just back off. We tried putting him in her cage, like my leader suggested but that did nothing. Chancey was still mounting him....

What can we do to get him to breed with her? The latest we want is for her to be bred by tomorrow, since we bred her at the same time as her mom in case any babies need fostering, etc.

Thanks!

Emily

I breed 2-3 times at night (each breeding within 5 minutes of each other) and then 1-2 times the next morning. This second breeding does not build on top of the first one. But incase she missed the first time, it's just a backup. :)
