Hey everyone!

I just have a quick question if any breeders or anyone out there could answer. How old are rabbits when they need to be seperated? Like when do they start breeding and fighting?

I have my two 10 week old bucks that still live in the same hutch and I'm planning on keeping them together until they are 12 weeks old. Right now they show no signs of breeding or fighting they just play and cuddle:)

What do you all think? Is that too long? If so, when should I seperate them?

As long as you're sure they're both males, you can wait until they start getting aggressive. Even if they start humping, if it's not aggressive & doesn't seem to bother the other one, you could let it go. But at some point you'll probably need to separate them. If you plan to re-bond them, I would keep them nearby, so each stays familiar with the other, just can't make physical contact. Once each is neutered it takes at least a month for all the hormones to dissipate, so don't assume you can put them back together right away after. And start with short sessions & work up to full re-bonding.

Thanks for the advice :) I won't be bonding or neutering them, I'll be selling one (Jack) and keeping the other (Rue) for showing. Jack will be going to his new home in 2 weeks when he is 12 weeks old. So my plan is to keep them in the same hutch for the next two weeks until Jack goes to his new home. The reason is, I don't have another hutch for Jack so he would have to be in a wire cage and that is kinda small & chilly (I have them outside or sometimes in my garage that isn't heated)

Do you think this plan will work??

This type of situation is very dependent on the individual rabbits. In general, it seems like same-sex siblings can live together peacefully until 10-14 weeks of age. However, I've had 6 week old bucks I've had to separate before.

As soon as I notice any chasing or mounting at all, I separate the kits. Some people will let them go as long as there is no sign of fighting, but "horseplay" can turn violent easily and quickly. Not worth the risk!
