How does your dog or cat food compare?

Yeah, I don't feed any of those brands, either...our kitties get Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul Adult Formula dry food (and Hobbes will now be getting a wet food daily that's still TBD).

Hugs!

:biggrin2:

Kirby gets Canidae or Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul (we switch every once in a while, but lately it's all Chicken Soup).

They are both very picky about what they put in their food. Boxers are notorious for corn and wheat allergies, so we chose a food that would avoid those problems.

Rosie this might help your kitty.
Oh, haha...just noticed what you said. Don't worry...they get a VERY high quality food (Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul). I think we've realized that the problem lies in the increase of fluoride in the tap water here in Southern California...so we're going to give them bottled water, and give them water in a water fountain (Drinkwell, probably).

Thank you so much, though! :)

I don't have a dog :p, yet!, but I use dog food in my rat food mixture.

I use....

Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul - Senior dog food:

Solid Gold's Holistique Blendz - Adult Mantenance / Senior dog food:

I pay $9 for a 5lb bag of Chicken Soup and I pay $10 for a 4lb bag of Solid Gold and I get them at my local feed store. I costs me roughly $40 every 4 months for rat food...that I make myself using high quality dog foods and organic cereals/grains. $10 a month to feed my rats a heathy diet is well worth it, even though the rats cost so much more to take care of then the bunnies!

Mine aren't on there either. I use Nutro Natural Choice Adult (chicken flavor) dry and California Natural Chicken and Rice wet. The Nutro dry is easier for me to find and Eve seems to do slightly better on it than the dry California Natural. So far these are the only foods I've found that don't upset Lily's stomach, so I'm sticking with them.

Eve just needs quality food or she gets dandruff and greasy fur. Science Diet and Eukanuba= skanky looking kitty. She did great with Chicken Soup.

Rosie- for quality affordable wet foods, Chicken Soup is good. But also check out what you can get for other brands in the 13 oz sizes. They're much more economical that way as compared to the smaller cans. It's how I buy my California Natural wet, and other similarly priced 13 oz cans of good food are are Felidae and Innova. There are probably more brands, I just haven't seen them in my area. I'm not sure what's best for a boy with urinary issues, but that's what the cat forum is for.:)

Nutro Lamb and rice sensitive stomach.

My dane eats 40 lbs a month.

and he is 9 years old. Our last two lived to the ripe old ages of 11 and 13.

danes generally live 6-8 years (estimated life span)

and nutro has less waste so they have less waste! so i have less to pick up!!!

Yeah!

Ah those are all good brands. Though I wish they had more on teh comparison thinger. Too many people just feedtheir pets junk anymore.

Anyways, I thught it was a neat thingy.

My dad feeds his dogs ''Ol Roy". Which is like garbage on top of poop.

I never liked Nutro. I did have my dog on it for a while and he wouldn't eat it. Also I talked to the reps at Petsmart a lot and read any and all thier info and I found a lot of conflicting information and they just seemed really shady to me.

And they are so all over converting every freaking dog person in the store to their food. Like if they're talking to me and someone else with a dog walks in they'll just leave in the middle o fmy sentence to go talk to someone else about thier dog. The one woman the worked there alwys seemed like, really fake. She would laugh at anything that person said.

And if I was speaking to someone she'd just come and like...steal them from me. It was annoying.

The End

The Natura website has a lot more comparisons, you just have to compare one of their brands side-by-side with the others. Natura makes some great stuff, including California Natural and Innova.

Edit: Out of curiosity I looked up Eukanuba's Sensitive Stomach formula for cats. First 5 ingredients: Brewers rice, corn grits, chicken by-product meal, corn meal, chicken fat. Wait a sec, I thought cats were obligate carnivores?

Yeah, that's really the key thing about cat (and I think dog as well) food. Ya gotta check out the first few ingredients. The first two or three SHOULD be something like actual chicken, not carb type ingredients. For CSFTCLS, the first ingredients are chicken & chicken meal, which is really good as an indicator. Also in the ingredients: ocean fish meal, white rice, potatoes, oatmeal, millet, natural chicken flavor, salmon, turkey, duck, kelp, carrots, peas, apples, tomatoes, blueberries, spinach, dried skim milk, cranberry powder, rosemary extract, parsley flake, etc. Very natural ingredients...makes Mama happy! :D

(You can see the entire list if ingredients here.)

I'm gonna check out their canned food, too. :D
