I would have someone just say Hi rather then "How's it going?", "What's Up?" or "What do ya know...?"

The first small talk question, people really don't care how it is going for you or whats up, so why ask.

The last one, how do people expect you to respond? My usual response is "I have no idea". If someone asks me "how's it going?" I sometimes reply, you want the truth or do you want the lie?

So how do you respond to these small talk questions? I am looking for some new snappy responses.

Seriously? I say my welfare check got cut.. my son is on meds to suppress his homicidal urges, we had to put the dog down because it killed a neighbor, and my husband left me for a younger woman.

Once they get over the shock... they then realize I am kidding.. and they don;t usually ask me again..

I always say tired. Usually gets a laugh and if they want to know more they ask more questions.

A popular kid's respnse to 'what's up' is 'the sky'

Lol, having been ill for the past year and even more ill recently, I hate this question!:grumpy:

I find that if you say 'well, not so good....', unless it's really close friends, they don't tend to like to hear that answer and it gets kind of awkward, but I've also found out that if I say 'yeah alright thanks' or 'ok thank you!' then people tend to think that means 'BRILLIANT!'

Like, before my mum really understood what was wrong with me, a few months ago she'd ring and say 'how are you?' and I'd say 'yeah, ok' and she'd say 'oh, so you're better then? that's good, you going back to work?' and I'd be like 'nooooooo- I meant ok as in I'm alive!'

It's a lose-lose situation as far as I'm concerned! :?
