If I pick the branches directly from the tree, I normally just give them right to Theo. But, if I grab a pinecone off the ground I will wash it in the sink with warm water and put it in the oven at 350*F for about 15 minutes.

I don't clean them. Though I know some people prefer to. Maybe something like a water/vinegar rinse, then low temp or air dry, making sure nothing goes moldy. But this isn't something I've ever bothered doing.

I just try and use ones that are relatively clean and don't have mold or anything growing on them. I would only use pinecones that are clean, dry and opened up, and not sappy. With branches, my rabbits always prefer fresh over dried. I just give the non sprayed(no pesticides, no chemicals), non diseased branches right from the tree.

My dad says why would I risk it, he sees how I treat my rabbit and how depressed I was when my first 2 sadly passed away, so now we all are extra careful, He didn't want me to get my boy neutered because that's how are last one passed away. Her name was Twinkie.
