So, it's been a time working with Pokie and what is going on with her. I have had my niece ride her (she's really good with horses) and she came to the conclusion that Pokie can't collect herself and is fussing and frustrated. The counselors and 4H leaders thought she was just being bad.

My FIL looked at her hoof to see if there was something wrong with her shoe that is causing the issue on that side.... She's been horrible... not our Pokie Dooo.... I knew something was just not right with any of it. :(

So yesterday, Lexi rode her again and again she fussed and carried on. I looked her over and checked the curb again....and I saw it.... I had adjusted her curb chain because they had tightened it at camp on the second day - the day she started wigging out. I onlyloosened theone side and it had been normally hooked on..... the other side was still tight and wrapped over twice in the loop where her headstall hooks and not the curb hole...... so in effect it was too tight and at an angle under her chin.... when Lexi would lope her to the left, it would most likely be cutting into her on the right - which she's sensitive to her face and she was getting very confused!

Most horses need a curb chain to tighten to work the bit, but Pokie has always been leg and seat driven. Yes, if you sit back she stops.... if you sit up and squeeze she goes... you can ride her without reins.... the curb is just an item required by 4H but not actually used on her.... they don't get that for some reason! Lexi would prefer the money for camp next year be used to buy a new show bridle! LOL!

Mommy fixed it.... Mommy cried happy tears ...... You could see she was so relieved that Mommy found the problem! She sighed! NO LIE! Pokie's ears went forward, her eyes lit up again and all was well in horsey land once again!!!!

Lexi rode her again tonight.... no problems..... back to our sweet old Pokie Doo! :biggrin2:

Baby birds are in the nest in the rafters of Kota and Pokie's run-in stall. Not just any birds...barn swallows. They were sitting on the edges of their nest yesterday and today they ventured out onto the wood beams.... I have no doubt that tomorrow is the day that Mama will take them for their first attempt to fly! They are so cute all lined up in a row.... even when Mama dive-bombs us while we watch! Did you know Barn Swallows can pluck a human hair while still in flight? I plan to take photos tomorrow....

My poison ivy is nearly gone and my legs are nearly back to normal! YAY!

Fair is coming up so if I go missing..... just remember I love you all!

:biggrin2:

Well this sounds good all around Bo! :)I'm glad Pokie is O.K now... that your are improving (great news!) ... and that fair is coming up - even though you'll be busy, it's fun.

We have lots of baby birds too... I should share pictures. I've been terrible at it for the last while and I have all kinds. Aren't they just the cutest things :)

They are! I love watching them when Mama comes in to feed them and all their little mouths pop open! LOL!

These guys are just about over that stage and just little puff balls of feathers LOL!

Baby birds are sooo cute. When I lived in California we had a dove nest outside of our bedroom every year. I loved waking up in the morning to the little birdie noises.

Aww I love mourning doves! When we had Casper, she had a boyfriend for a couple of years that would come to her window and coo for her - he just couldn't figure out how to get to his beloved through that metal thing! LOL!

I went to see the babies today and they were gone...... except there was one dead by the nest - not sure what happened as it was sort of caught or something :(
