Ok. I would really love to get some help on this problem. Description:

Okay, there are three selling areas in a grocery store, 1. Produce (area is 2000 sq. ft) 2. Grocery (area is 18,800 sq. ft.) and 3. Meat (area is 3200 sq. ft.) The total area of the entire building is 24,000 sq. ft.

Question (im stuck on! lol): What fraction of the total area is each of the selling areas? Express your answer as a decimal.

then the next part is to convert those decimal fractions to percentages....anyone wanna please help me out?

Thankies,

Emily

Hmm.. letme try this.. (might want to have someone give a second opinion!)

It would be 2000 dived by 24000 to find the fraction for produce, 18800 divided by 24000 for grocery and 3200 divided by 240000. So once you have those numbers, will come up as a number like .0833 (like the first one)rounded to the nearest number, so .08.. then to find percent, you just move the decimal twice to the right, so would be 8%. Then if the number was say .78, would turn into 78%.

Holy moly you sure lost me! lol. I hope you're right! I'll wait until someone else posts and see what they say :)

ETA: I actually think I get it now! :) Will try after I get out of the shower! lol.

:yeahthat:

But when I add them all together - I come up with 99.9% total...not the full 100%.

Anyway - here is what Spring did...

2,000 / 24,000 = .0833 That is the first answer you need. To get the percentage - it is 83.3% - because you move the decimal place two digits to the right.

To get the other answers - you will divide 18,800 / 24,000 and also 3,200 / 24,000.

Good luck!

Spring's answer is correct, as far as I can tell.
A result of 99.9% wouldn't be unusual, when you take into consideration rounding and lack thereof. Just readjust one of the figures to make it work.

Remember, when rounding, anything to the right of the last significant digit is rounded up if equal to 5 or more...
