I posted this information on anoither board and thought it would be good to post here. Our house runs off the old farm gas well so we feel very blessed not to pay heating or cooking gas costs although we pay for well maintenance.
There is a home energy assistance program here in the US to help pay winter heating bills. You do not need to be on any kind of public assistance to get HEAP. Here is the national web site that describes the program and gives information about applying. Payments are made directly to the utility or in the form of vouchers you take to the utility co.

Please share the web site with others. Here in Ohio the utility companies are required to give HEAP info on bills. I am not sure how other states handle this.
