Hi everyone, I'm Jemma, the proud (and ever-so-slightly obsessed!) bunny-mummy of Mylo and Lola I've been completely mad about bunnies ever since I was little (I used to draw countless of pictures of them and everytime one of my classmates wanted a picture of a bunny they'd come to me to draw it, he he), and Mylo and Lola are my 5th & 6th bunnies. I've also been the mummy of Clover, Freya and Fiver, and auntie of Clover's littermate Velvet (who was my sister's bunny).
Even when I was little our rabbits were always allowed in the house a lot, although Clover, Velvet and Freya were all technically outside bunnies. Fiver was my first full-time house bunny - he spent the first week in our bathroom cos he was so tiny and we didn't want him being cold outside, then we decided that we wanted him to live inside with us permanently cos he just looked so lonely outside. We first had him about 10 years ago, so it was before house-bunnies were widely heard of. I love the fact that so many people now realise how amazing rabbits are, that they are there to be loved and spoiled and not just shut away in a cage at the bottom of the garden. Grrrr, people like that make me MAD!!! :X
OK then, back to the bunnies... Mylo is almost 1 and half (his birthday is the same day as mine ) and I got him last year as a baby. I'd not long moved out of home for the first time and was desperate for another bunny, as I hadn't had one since Fiver had died, about 5 years previously. My boyfriend needed to be persuaded, but Mylo won him over straight away!
We got Lola a few months later (she'll be 1 in a few weeks time), as I wanted Mylo to have a playmate. (I was on long-term sick leave when we got Mylo so I was with him practically 24/7 and we really bonded. I didn't want him to be lonely on his own all day when I went back to work though - plus I wanted to have as many bunnies as possible!) I was worried that they wouldn't bond, thinking that Mylo would resent Lola for taking his mummy away from him, but thankfully it only took a week for them to fall in love, and now they're INSEPERABLE! It melts my heart every time I see them snuggled up or grooming each other, and they're constantly making us laugh with their cheeky antics!
Both bunnies are naturally very inquisitive and into EVERYTHING. I'm quite arty and like making cards and painting, and every time I start doing something the bunnies are right next to me, like "What are you doing? What's that thing? Can I help?" Even wrapping presents takes ages, cos they try and chew the paper or run away with the ribbon.
Lola is probaby the more inquisitive of the two though - she's always trying to squeeze behind things, and she loves getting on her hind legs and looking on the coffee table to see if there's anything she can run away with! She was quite shy to begin with and didn't really like being smoothed that much, but she's really settled in now and loves being fussed. (Although sometimes it's as if she thinks that she shouldn't be enjoying her smoothes, so starts being cheeky and nudging my hand away , lol.) Mylo has always loved being fussed over but, like most bunnies, he doesn't like being picked up much and makes (very cute) angry little noises if you do. He gets hiccups sometimes (another cute noise!) and likes having his back rubbed to settle him down again, and he gets twitchy if he's upset, bless him. (Don't worry, I've had him checked out at the vets and they've said that he's perfectly healthy, it's just one of his bunny-quirks.) He comes across as a bit of a grumps sometimes, but he loves his mummy and Lola and is a big softy really
I love lying on the floor with both bunnies, nuzzling their faces and whispering how beautiful they are (don't laugh, I bet you all do it too!!!). And it's the BEST feeling when they reciprocate and lick my face or groom my hair I love spoiling them and am constantly revamping their house to make it bigger or more fancy. I'd love more bunnies but I don't want Mylo and Lola to feel less loved, or to spoil the relationship between them, so I guess I'll see how it goes! If I do get more bunnies I'll get them from a rescue though, and I'd really love to set up my own bunny shelter one day.
As an afterthought: I'm 24 and am originally from Cardiff, Wales but moved to Hinckley, Leicestershire in January 2007. I live with my amazing boyfriend Chris, who wasn't originally a bunny person but is now head-over-heels in love with Mylo and Lola (but doesn't like to admit it in front of his friends, lol). He's a great bunny-daddy and it's SO cute watching him lying on the floor with the buns crawling all over him
Anyway, sorry for such a long post! I get ever-so-slightly carried away where my babies are concerned
Take care,
Jem xxx
