So hello! I am new to this forum and to bunny care! :balloons:
I currently work at the Safari (I won't state my location since it's the internet and all).
We got our bunnies accidently bred. Now we have a lot of them roaming around. They keep only the females, and either free the males or give them to the reptiles. :cry4:
I can't let this happen, so I've decided to post the case on some webs of my country and see if anyone would like to adopt.
(I live in the Middle east)
However, I want to adopt a bunny! :rabbithop
I already have 3 hamsters that my parents kinda dislike. But they said yes to Guinea pig before I said I'd rather one rabbit.
My mom said they stink and have dieseses. :twitch:
I don't really know what to tell her. I mean, I can just bring the bunny home and let her deal with it, but I'm scared of her reaction. :anyone:

Rabbits don't stink (unless you don't clean up after them) and don't carry diseases (well, rabbits can get sick just like people do, but you can't catch much from a rabbit, being a different species and all).

However, they can be quite messy (I sweep every day for hay and poops and fur), they don't take up much time but they should be given a few hours each day to roam outside their pen/cage. They can also have a "rodent smell" if you use certain types of bedding or litter. It's actually the smell of the bedding, but people associate it with rodents.

Long story short - rabbits do make good pets but everyone in your home should be on board. It's not like a hamster which can spend most of its life in the four walls of your bedroom - a rabbit is very social and will need to be involved in the daily life of your home.

That said, if you are willing to put in the time every day to clean, and your mom is willing to tolerate a rabbit as an "around the house" pet, it could work out!

I agree, my rabbits and I have 4 and all live in my house do not stink. I sweep up my house and hoover. You should explain to your mother and let her know. If you have your own bedroom you can mark off an area of your room for the rabbit to run around in and keep that area clean also for your mom and other people to know that they do not stink and do not have diseases. Trust me I would not have 4 of them in my house if they stank and had diseases!!!! That would be crazy!!!

If you cannot get a home for the other male is there a rabbit rescue you could bring the other rabbit to that might be fed to the reptiles? That might be a good option. It's really good hearted of you to try to rescue the rabbit instead of have it fed to some other animal. you have a good heart!

Take care!

Now hang on, since those bunnies you're looking at are "roaming around" it IS possible that they might have picked up some health problems, like mites or ticks. You should definitely get your bunny checked over by a good rabbit vet when you get it.

In fact, vet costs would be my main concern. Bunnies can be expensive. Their neuters cost more, and if they fall ill, it's hard to find a vet who specialises in rabbits so that might include additional costs too. Would you/your mum be alright with having a pet that you might have to spend quite a bit of money on?

That said, if the bunny is healthy and happy, they are quite pleasant-smelling fellows. I can stick my nose all the way in my bunnies' fur, and smell nothing but soft sweet hay. And they've never had a bath in their lives!

Congrats and YAY for the buns they will be rescued that is awesome :great:Good Job.
Look forward to hearing more from you and seeing pics of those gorgeous buns.
