Hi All

Im Sooz and I run happy Hoppers Rabbit Rescue based in Sheffield (UK not yet worked out if this is a mainly US based site?).

We cater for around 30 rabbits at a time, normally 20 here with me and the remainder in one of our foster homes.

I have kept rabbits for years and yetI learn something new everyday! My current bunnies are my terrible trio, Marley (Blk&W Dutch), Fiver (grey&whiteMini-lop)& Scout(grey & white Dwarf lop X). I had these guys before I started the rescue and Im ashamed to say they are all pet shop bunnies *slap hands*.

I also have 3 permenant rescues who cannot be rehomed for medical reasons and they are: Bobby- incisorless REW (NZW cross), Pippa grey & white butterfly Dwarf Lop (has inoperable tumatic growths) and Lexie my Isabella Dwarf Lop house bunny who suffers with Pasteurella and only has one eye.

Lexie is a very new addition having very sadly lost my Tri-coloured Dutch boy Caspian on the 25th November. Caspian was a permenant rescue but lived in the house as my own and we had a very special bond. I had to have him PTS due to chronic GI issues relating to a suspected growth or Pyloric Stenosis. It was not an easy decision to make and I miss him everyday.

So thats me and my bunnies, I look forward to getting to know you & yours!

Hello there, Sooz! Welcome!

It's a wonderful thing you do, rescues.

I've not heard of Pyloric Stenosis before. Wow, how sad, I'm sorry to hear that. If you happen to have any more info on that, I'd like to see it. We could add some info about it in our Library:):bunnydance:.

Again, Welcome. I can't wait to hear and see more about your Terrible Trio!

Welcome to the forum Happy_hoppers! :welcome1

Caspian must of been a special boy. Sorry he is gone to the Bridge.

Sound like you are doing a wonderful job with the permanent rescues. *pats back* :D

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Pyloric Stenosis is not particularly common in any species but it is better known in people and dogs.

This is the best link I have for the condition, which is generally congenital and more likely to affect bucks than does:

Sadly, whilst surgery could be seen as an option, it is fiddly, risky and requires ahigh level of expertise which means the outlook is not good. Personally anyGI tract surgery on any rabbit is a dangerous procedure with a poor prognosis and we opted not to put Caspian through this. Just because something can be done does not always mean it should be.

He had been in and out of stasis for weeks and this time it got too much for him. Despite critical care nursing and access to a huge range of drugs he did not respond as before and was in severe pain by day 6. It was not in his interests to keep trying knowing that it would almost certainly be just a few weeks before it happened again.

Hullo Sooz and WELCOME ... I know you from the Sheffield Forum ... it's really good to have another bunny person near to where I live!

Hello Saffy, did you post on my thread about rabbits in winter? Thanks for telling me about this forum, its nice to have one thats active at night whilst my other forum is quiet (I work odd hours)!

Indeed I did Sooz. Tis a lovely, friendly forum here too ..

I was looking at your buns up for adoption and sorely tempted, but my OH pointed out that the two rabbits we have are so settled and in love, it might upset them and why upset the status quo. I can see his point, but I would also like to offer an unwanted pet some love and attention .. perhaps fostering is an idea?

I found this site when we got our first rabbit, Felix, a Netherland Dwarf .. I was absolutely desperate as Felix had the most awful runny poops; they were up the wall, all over the floor .. in fact, everywhere!

The lovely people on this forum saw me through a difficult few days and when Felix finally died, they were there for me too.

It took a while for us to get another bun - but I think that once you have had one of these furry little creatures in your life, you're smitten!

Benji gave us a heck of a lot of trouble to say the least, and it came to a point where we nearly decided on re homing him as he was so vicious! My daughter was frightened to death of him and he'd bitten me down to the bone - we decided that if this behaviour carried on after having him neutered, then he would have to go.

Thankfully, I think the fright that Benji got in having his doo dars chopped made him decide he had better behave himself a bit better.

I'm happy to say that he is now bonded with Mookie and loved up to bits ... he still has his moments though! :D Glad he does in a way, as this was obviously part of his character. I think he is just a very timid rabbit, who uses nastiness to keep people at bay.

They share a lovely big cage - with vinyl flooring (!!!) and a huge run on the patio, just outside the patio doors, so that we can open the doors and let them run into the house now and again.

Even my husband, who isn't a rabbit mad person, has grown attached to them, and sneaks them bits of Jacob's cream crackers every now and again. They absolutely LOVE them for some reason.

What I need now is a shed so that I can have MORE rabbits!!
