Hey y'all, I have wthese four rabbits with VERY different personalities:) Anyway, I've only had these rabbits for about 2 months but let me introduce them. My first rabbit and only boy is Domino whose a Netherland dwarf. He prefers to be left alone but he'll let me hold him for about 10 minutes at a time then the poor boys had enough ;). The next 3 I got at the same time from a friend who moved away. First there is Holly, who definitely has the sweetest personality out of the bunch. She's a mini lop and the cutest ball of gray fuzz that's ever existed! Next are my Flemish giants Marigold and Amelia. I read these are the gentle giants of the rabbit world but mine...not so much. Don't get me wrong I love the little devils but after about 2 weeks they started biting the mess out of me and out of my little niece if she walks near them and now they fight with each other all the time, too. :sosad So if anyway if anybody has any suggestions about those 2 please give me some advice because I 'm bound and determined to keep them. Well, have s good day everybody!

Yay, another Georgia member! I don't know anything about Flemish giants other than I want one! Are they neutered? That's all I can think of as far as behavior problems. If you post your question in the Nutrition and Behavior section, you might be able to get some help.

Welcome to the forum :D

Welcome to the site! You have quite a family there.

The neutering is the first thing that comes to mind for me, too. That and space and exercise...I think Flemish Giants need lots of room to run and play as they grow and probably need lots of living space, as well.

Be careful if your 2 are fighting. Bunny fights can turn deadly, or very serious and permanent damage can be done. How are you housing them? Are they indoors, outdoors, all together, in separate cages, spayed? What are their ages?

As others have already said, it also sounds to me like the 2 that are fighting may have reached adolescence and their hormones are causing them to fight. If so, they must be separated -- especially if you want them to bond once they are spayed.

Rabbits seldom get along once their hormones kick in. They need to be spayed/neutered, and then properly bonded (which is a process in itself).

Sorry for replying so late but I'm trying to get them spayed the only problem is that spaying cost between $170-210 for just one of them and they have to be at least four months of age. I have them all together and a mixture of indoor and out door, depending on the weather. I also think that they're rubbing off on Holly because now she's biting me too.

The best thing is to keep them separated until spayed, for everyone's safety. You don't want any of your rabbits getting injured from a fight. Do you have a spay and neuter clinic nearby that also does rabbits? If so, that can be a more affordable way to get the spays done when they are old enough. The one near me would do it as early as 3 months, as long as the rabbit was as least 2 lbs. With your flemishes the weight wouldn't be a problem.

:yeahthat:

Did I read that you have all 4 un-altered buns together?! Yikes! Seperate now! :) you are either gonna have a fight or lots of babies!

I have the girls together and am trying to get a cage built but it's gonna be REALLY expensive and I've called around for vets and none of them are really familiar with rabbits and the cheapest place is gonna cost me $170 dollars per rabbit! It's not worth it to me to go to place around here especially if they dont have the experience.

You can pick up some NIC cubes and have 3 temporary cages built in no time. This forum has lots of threads and pics of NIC cages. You just need something quick and temporary to keep them separate and this would be an easy and cheap way to go. When you're done with the temp cages, they can easily be taken apart and reconfigured into different and/or larger cages.

Remember, if they fight too much now, then you'll have a much harder time bonding them after they are spayed (and a possibility that they simply won't bond).

I've looked around for the nic cubes in different stores but I haven't seen them but I'll try to find a sears and look around there. And about the bonding, I thought they were already. I mean they fight sometimes but it's not a constant thing. They can usually be seen sleeping on or with each other, and it's sort of weird but if they get into fights sometimes I'll keep one in a cage and the other two in separate bathrooms for a night and they just seem so lost and depressed, until I put them back together again, in which case they all huddle together for about half an hour and won't let me touch them.

Do rabbits give the stink eye? I swear I'm getting the stink eye right now.

if you go to sears, ask where the garage shelving is as they may not know what you're talking about if you ask for storage cubes :)

you can also order online (it's cheaper online anyway) and then do site-to-store to avoid outrageous shipping fees if you don't mind waiting a bit for the cubes.

Fighting is not good at all. Those fights may escalate and serious (or lethal) damage can be done. I'd be very careful about that.

Do their fights look anything like the ones on this video. This I took. These 3 buns had been together for 4 weeks without anything serious. You'll see how I had to separate the 2 brothers and then, crazy as it is, they all 3 snuggled. You can skip the snuggling part on the video -- just drag forward to the 5 minute mark and you'll see what happened next. It was after this occurrence, that I decided to separate the brothers.
