Hi, I'm thinking of getting a rabbit, so I need to know as much information as I can.
I have lots of questions.
What kind of bedding should I avoid and which I get?

How much space does one rabbit need?

What kind of foods do rabbit food eat?

Thanks in advance! :D

Well, I'll tell you what I know.

*Other bunny lovers, pleasefeel free to correct me if I am wrong*

I would say some of the best bedding's to use would be:

Aspen
Care Fresh
Paper based (non scented) bedding- Pellet or Soft
Kiln dried pine

But, really.. most people just litter box train there bunnies so they dont use bedding.

For litter, you could use any of the above beddings I listed, and/or you could use:

Corn cob bedding
Dried Pine/Aspen wood pellet bedding/litter

As far as cage space goes, bunnies actually needa lot of space. They like running and hopping around. It mostly depends on the bunny's size.
Whats size rabbit are you lookignn into getting? Other's on the forum could help you out with this question more than myself. But to give you an idea, I am getting a bunny that will be around 2 to 3 pounds full grown and I just got done building him a 4ft long by 2ft wide cage with a 1 1/2ft by 1 1/2ft second level and that is big enough for just him. But like I said, you will get better help form some others on here with this one.

About rabbit food, I know that they should have a hay based pellet. Non of that fancy crap that most the pet stores carry. Just plane ol' hay pellets will be best. I think they also should have a certain amount of protein too, but I am not 100% sure on how much.

Rabbits also should have hay, thats just as important as food to them. They should have it 24-7 and have easy access to it.

Hope this help, hopfully someone that can answer your questions a bit better will come around soon.

oh, and welcome!!!

Let me welcome you to Rabbits Online, my name is Dave and I am a moderator on the forum. So if I can be of any help please let me know. This is a terrific website for rabbits and their slaves, not only is it very active but also friendly. I am so glad you’re here and I know you will enjoy it.

What kind of bedding should I avoid and which I get? Stay away from ground up corn cobs, cedar shavings and any pine type not kiln dried. There is a wide variety of litter, carefresh, yesterdays news, wood pelleted.

How much space does one rabbit need? It really depends on the size of the rabbit as to the size of cage it will need, also a rabbit can do with a smaller cage if it is going to be out a lot. The larger the rabbit the larger the cage. Would your rabbit be a indoor bunny or outdoor bunny?

What kind of foods do rabbit food eat? A good balanced diet of rabbit pellets, veggies and hay.

Many bunny's recommend their slaves to this site so we may learn of others methods to keeping our furry masters happy.

If you everhave a sick bunny, please post in The Infirmary and include your rabbit's age, breed and health history as well diet and output details leading up to the problem.

I have listed some links I thought you might find interesting:

*For reference the Library section

*To brag or tell everyone about the antics of your bunny when you get one or just to talk about your day here is where to start a Bunny Blog, you can also look back at it later and remember when you had a life before your bunny.

*Now all the bunny’s like talk to each other when we mere slaves aren’t around in the Bunny Chat is the spot to be.

*Rabbits Online also has regional forums , this a good way to find a vet in your area that has experience with rabbits and to find out from other nearby of good sources of rabbit supplies.

The Let Your Hare Down section is for anything non-bunny related.

Here is a link tothat will help you and your bunny to connect, How To Bond With Your Bunny.

Now every forum has rules and ours can be found with this link Rabbits Online Forum Rules. This gives guidelines on what is acceptable, what is not and how we hope everyone will treat each other.

Everyone on this forum loves to see pictures of each other’s bunnies. So if you would like to post a picture this link will help you do that, Upload Photo's to Photo Gallery. Then in the post, you click on the "G" in the tool bar to insert your photo. Many people also use Photobucket. You just copy the img file and paste it into the post.

I am glad you have joined rabbits online and I look forward to seeing you around.

best thing you can do is go to google and type in rabbit breeds. find the rabbit you want and research it thoroughly. the size and needs and such. cause if you get a long hair rabbit you'll need brushes and stuff. short hair not so much. certain types of rabbits do not like being handled (though it depends mostly on personality). like i know there is a cross breed of rabbit that is very territorial, runs around making noises, but when picked up it's quiet.

:)hello and welcome from me and my rexes. im with jessa - get googling and having a look around this forum. look at what you can offer a bunny too - for example you may not have the space for a flemish giant (or be able to lift one) but may be suited to a netherland dwarf. check out your local shelters too!

oh and dont forget to post pics when you do get you bunny:biggrin:

I can sorta help with food.. by saying what I feel my rabbits. XD
I give them unlimited timothy hay, and 1/3 cup of timothy pellets every morning.
At night I give them a salad as I like to call it.
They get all colours of bell peppers, curly endive, mint, parsley, cilantro, romaine lettuce, apple, carrot, celery, bok choy, and escarole. (Sometimes they don't get a specific veggie cause we run out and have to go out and get more XD)
