Hey guys! My name is Cait and I am new here. I am getting a baby boy this Friday, and went in search of a good rabbit forum. Someone pointed me over here, so here I am!

I have had rabbits before, but after my last pair stopped owning them for awhile. I now feel I amat a place in my life where I can finally have another pair. I found my boy on Craigslist aftersearching for a few weeks. He is aJersey wooly andmini lop mix. He is all white and is 8 weeks old. I am very excited! In another month I will have him neutered, andabout two months after that I will be adopting him aspayed girl from the ARL of Iowa. :) Hopefully I can get thembonded. Then I'll have a pair of housebunnies, if everything goes to plan! :D

Besides my future bun, I have thirteen rats who are my pride and joy, and a golden retriever/border collie mix.

I'm glad to be here! :)

Hi and welcome to the forum! :)

This is certainly a great forum for bunny owners!

Congrats on finding your new bunny! Looking forward to pics of him and your rats and dog!

:welcome1

welcome to the forum :) nice seeing another kansas person on here...

and at 12 weeks i dont know if youll want to get him nueatered. i am pretty sure you wait until thier balls drop...around 4-5 months old. not sure, though. maybe someone else can chime in :)

Thanks for the welcome, guys!!

I wasn't sure when you could have them done; I had read somewhere that you could have it done at 10 weeks. I've never had a baby rabbit before, haha. But thank you, I will certainly ask my vet what a good age would be. :)

Now I'm not so sure I'm getting my boy, though. His owner called me today and had some concerns about me getting him a month before I move. While I understand her concern, I've traveled with buns before and never had problems. I'm afraid to call her back, as I've got my heart set on him. But I suppose I have to get to that, eh? *sigh* Wish me luck.

with thier young age she may be worried about the stress a move may induce...though ive moved my bunnys twice the past year and they seemed fine. some dont handle moves and new places so well...fingers crossed for you

so you know what kinda bunny he is :)

*sigh* I did call back, and it didn't go well for me. To be fair, her concerns are justified, and she did point me in the direction of some bunns who will be ready around the time I do move. Still my heart hurts, because I was really looking forward to having the little guy... I'm ashamed to admit I did shed a few tears after I got off the phone with her. :( I guess it wasn't meant to be. I will continue my search though.

what were her reasons?

and that is sad...i know how high my hopes were for this shelter bunny...then it got sent to another home instead. you could check out shelters? im sure lots of people will be getting rid of easter bunnies soon to sadly...

Just that she didn't like the idea of him being moved around. *sigh* That would be a problem, because in the span of a rabbit's life I'm bound to move at least once, you know? I guess it's just irritating because I'm an army brat, always moving, and I've always traveled with my pets and never had any issues.

I've had my eyes on the shelter in Iowa (ARL) and they always always have rabbits there. I am also searching this forum's rescue section, and visiting the sites of rescues located at least semi near to me. The right rabbit is out there for me, I just have to find it. :)

I think you're right about the post-Easter bunnies; there are always a bunch and I am sure there will be quite a few bunnies that need homes in the next couple months.
