What cute babies - congratulations on the additions to your family.

I am not sure if you were planning on showing/breeding the lionheads but I wanted to let you know (as a former lionhead breeder) that I would not do so.

They're adorable and I bet they're going to make great pets - but I think the two bucks (from the photos) have wool on the ears which I'm trying to remember if it is a DQ or just a fault. The standards have just changed a bit since the COD (certificate of development) just passed to a different breeder than the one who presented last year.

Your doe is very pretty - a bit long in body - but she looks sweet. I wish you good luck with the litter.

I hope you enjoyed your show - it sounds like you did.

I don't know about the lion heads. I just need to do some reading on them. The Doe and the father are just pets. She came pregnant. They are adorable. I wanted to show them also. Michigan had alot of judges showing them. I had one judge looked at the Tort and he really liked him.

Thanks anyways

That's fine - good luck with shows. I tend to follow the trends now in lionheads to see what the winners are looking like since it is a developing breed. I bred them for 3 years and keep toying with going back into them at some point in time - but if I did - I already know the breeders I'd use - even though it means shipping in from Washington state.

Good luck with yours and with showing them!

The Tort does not have hair on hes ears. It was me fluffying all hes fur. I had some breeders check him out for me. He is only 2 months old. But the Dark Lion Head is nothing. I mean no pedigree nothing. I just wanted the Doe because I felt bad for her. But My hubby saw the Tort and wanted him.

Thanks for the Website. I sure will read up on it. I need all the info that I can get.

But I need to brush him out better and take better pictures of him.

No it isn't Pridelands. She is the BIG breeder up there partly because she holds the current certificate of development and for the last five years I've always heard, "If anyone can get lionheads passed...it will be Theresa".

One of my favorite lionhead breeders that I've personally gotten lionheads from is Legendary Minis with Kaela and Nita Shannon. Kaela has an AWESOME eye for rabbits and I think she'll be one of the top lionhead breeders if she stays with it as she becomes an adult. Their rabbits are not only great on the table - but their personalities are wonderful based upon the attention they get from Kaela and Nita while they're growing up.

Here is a link to their page of does...whenever I dream of my next lionheads (ha...years from now) - this is where I go...

Misty - Simba is a tort - if his eyes are grey he's a blue tort but I think he's a black tort. Your other buck is a chestnut. I'm guessing your doe is black from the photo - (could be a dark siamese sable or something else) - but if she's black - you'll probably wind up with chestnuts I'm guessing since that is the dominant gene.

okay. Thanks. But one more question if you do not mind me asking..

We looked at hes pedigree and he does not have to Torts in hes Pedigree except him? Why is that?

What colors are in his pedigree?

There are five genes that determine the color a rabbit is - so the tort can be "hidden" behind other colors since it is not exactly a dominant gene.

Okay,,

The Sire was a black, The Dam was a REW.

Oh wait.. There was a Black Tort G.G. Sire.. Whatever that is

Having a REW rabbit is like having a pink polka-dotted couch covered by a white couch cover. (Or any other color that is).

There's something under there - you just can't see it because the REW genes (on the C gene) mask it.

GG sire is great grandsire.

And the names are.... OPM' Blue Clues,,, Setzke's Lilypear,, Richardsons Aiasuster Jr,, Patricks Cut,, Bastet's Skywalker,, Bastet's Anna,, Setzke's Tom,, Lukeshore's Princess Juile,, Weber's Santana,, Bastet's Luke,, RRH's Autum,, Setzke's Grand Slam,,

If that helps with you any...

Oh wow - I love the Bastet's line...she is one of the ones next in line for the COD. I had Bastet's R2D2- nice nice bunny.

I know of Setzke's - think I've met them at Nationals the year I went.

RRH is Robins Rabbit Habit or something like that - from PA (Bastet's is out of Ohio if I remember right).

But basically - the colors will be based on the genetics - somewhere here I've done some articles on the A/B/C/D/E genes and how they affect color. It is so fascinating (to me) to see how we get the various colors - black tort is basically a black but the color didn't "extend" all the way out so you get the tort coloring instead (it shows up on the "e" gene).

I rarely look at rabbitry names anymore and I try to not even look at pedigrees before I buy. Why? Because you can get so wrapped up in "This comes from grand champions" or "wow...this breeder is known for good rabbits"...etc. But you can take a rabbit from a great breeder and breed it to junk and get junk (guess how I learned that one? HINT: The expensive way).

Now I put my hands on the rabbit first or get really good photos of the rabbits and the parents. I know I'll buy anything only from 3 breeders without a hands-on inspection first - because I know they'll only sell the best.

I really do wish you good luck with your showing and as I told you in PM - I didn't mean to offend you (I know I didn't) - and I probably should have just wished you good luck and said you had a cute rabbit.

But show me a lionhead and I wind up opening my mouth and critiquing it.

Bad Peggy....bad bad Peggy.

:D

It's cool!! I understand And I love when people are here to help! You didnt hurt me feelings or whatever in anyways... Thanks again
