I just got a new male lionhead bunny a few months baq amd ummm why is that that it'll let me pet him but will not let me pick him up? And now all of a sudden my bunny is trying to be agressive with me and bites me and tries to hump my arm it's real gross ??? Can some one please help me =D

how old is he? he should be letting you handle him by now. Keep working with him up. He will get over it, and get used to it. sounds like he's becoming sexually mature. time to be neutered, unless he is a breeding bunny. Sometimes young bucks will get aggressive when their hormones kick in.

ya he is about 4-5 months and i know he should let me him up he doesnt get scared at all when i pet him only when i pick him up i dont think he trusts me yet and ive had him for about 3 months

My Bun does the same thing... She loves to be pet and loved as long as I don't pick her up. I want to pick her up and snuggle her soooo badly! I have had her about 3 months also. She did bite me once when I first got her. She actually has just recently become much, much more friendly and lovie with me. I am hoping that the picking up and snuggling is soon to come because I really wanted a cuddle bun :(

This original poster's bunny is definitely exhibiting hormonal behaviour.

I find with my rabbits, it depends on 'how' I pick them up. If they really feel secure, they get used to it.

If I keep one hand on their bums, the other on their chests and support them by holding them against my body with their feet just kicking the air (they can't be allowed to kick anything but air), they don't feel like they're going to be dropped (or eaten), and they get used to it pretty quickly.

The big guys are a bit different, I hold the little guys largely upright sitting on my hand with their backs against my chest, but I think the big guys are more 'craddled'.

To get them used to it, I start by picking them up while I'm sitting on the floor and I release them immediately as soon as they start to struggle. I give them a tiny treat while I'm holding them or after I let them go.

Hope this helps!

I found after much research and making friends on this forum, many rabbits don't like to be picked up at all. I know, a total bummer.:p But, if you get them used to their supposed forever home, it could come to that. Snuff lets me hold him like a baby, my first one? No way! He was big too and would really kick, that was my first experience w/ buns too. Just goes to show, all buns are different. Some hate to be held, some don't mind. Just get to know the bun and let him/her get to know you, but on their terms.:)

When you do get there, it's not quite as awkward as you may think. They really learn to conform to you picking them up too;).
