Hello all. Although I've owned rabbits pretty much all of my life, I am fairly new to the world of breeding. We now have a rabbitry, and the kids had a great time with a few litters so far. We have Holland Lops. From what I understand, only solids or brokens are able to be shown. At present, I am breeding a blue point to a broken blue. We're getting about 50% brokens, 50% points, which is what the breeding charts predicted.
I have the option to buy a torte doe. Does anyone have an idea what color the kits would likely be?
I know I should probably not be breeding a point and hoping for show colors, but he's the sweetest guy, and we're getting some great pet-quality babies.
Thank you!!!! Maryann

Welcome to the forums. Are the parents show quality? Have you shown them before?

Hollands are shown as either solid or broken BUT pretty much any color under the sun is recognized in those two categories. Julie with oakridgerabbitry would know which ones are a disqualification because they are not recognized. I think you're confused by what that means. A broken rabbit is a rabbit of any color mixed with white. Normally you can see this as rabbits with spots. A pointed rabbit is considered a solid color in Hollands so it is shown as a solid variety. I don't know if you're getting color and quality mixed up because some colors in Hollands have been more worked with and perfected for type than others. I'm not sure where blue point falls in this but I would think since I don't see many of them that they don't have some of the type than say what a tort would have. I would suggest showing your rabbits or even posting pictures on here and we would be able to help you figure out what's worth holding on to and what's worth not.

Depending on what the parents have in the background these can change but here's the basic color combos. You didn't say which was the buck so if it was the blue pointed white you can get more pointed whites (black or blue), blue torts, and black torts

With the broken blue you can get blue or black torts, and broken blues or broken blacks or broken tort. You could also get solid blue or solid black babies.

With the tort make sure what you have does not have otter in the background because you can end up with tort otters (totters) and they are a DQ.

Thank you for all of the helpful information woahlookitsme. Sorry, the buck is the pointed blue.
There is so much we have been learning just by setting up the rabbitry. There is a lot to learn, and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and time.
