Help with a parakeet?

My friend in NY is on the line asking me about a parakeet she has.

Boy, 8 years old -

Eats - Fruit seeds? (No idea) & some proper diet food?

Drinking water -

No meds

Vet said there was tumor on the liver that protuded externally. It hardened and grew to be like a scab and lifts and raises.
Vet said nothing can be done because of age.
Had this for about 5 months. Feathers would not grow on tumor. It looks like perhaps now something is coming through. She says it looks like how it would when you pull off a scab that is ready to come off. And is doing better now than he has been in the past five months.

Apparently it fell off on Friday....there was blood. They called the vet and they said don't worry about it and they have no answer for her.

Today he is jumping around, tweeting, and coming out of his cage.

Personally I don't know about tumors or them falling off.

Wondering if anyone has insight I could relay.

I moved this to the Off Topic section for you.

I'm not sure, as I've never had a bird, but a friend of mine had a budgie with a similar issue. I'm not sure of the result or the circumstances as the bird belonged to his parents.

I really didn't know what to tell her on that one. Offered what knowledge I had and recommended a vet I used when I lived in NY. Love him and thought he was one of the best bird docs in the area. Gave her his number and suggested she call and have Booger seen...but I don't know if she will or not.
